Is SAP a dying technology?
After 5 years of working as a SAP functional consultant, it sometimes feels as if we are lacking behind in terms of compensation as compared to newer technologies like data analytics, data engineering, etc. Is it worth switching to such emerging technologies like analytics, big data etc after working in SAP for 5 years?
I was a sap basis consultant in Accenture for the first two years of my professional life.I hated everything about the job, Finally had to quit that without an offer in hand and I switched to Ai and ML 2 years ago,I still don't make a lot of money around 10.2 LPA(Expecting a hike).
I like my job,But recently I am under a lot of stress, because the environment of the team has changed due to layoffs.I am being called for brainstorming meetings for evaluation (Even though my performance was really good past years). It took me 2 years to realise I am in a shitty company.
The only reason why I am staying in the current startup is because I got a project on Reinforcement learning.
Also I am lazy af.Should have never stayed in a comfort zone.
The point I am trying to make is , Even if you choose a high paying techstack you have to keep studying and decide at least 2 hrs every day.
Also I am bad at negotiating salaries as well.some good companies look other way if they see that I worked in Accenture as sap basis consultant.
Agreed on your point of keeping updated and studying but the same at some level applies to a SAP profile also I feel. Because we need to keep ourselves updated with the latest updates and overall IT in general works the same way. But the compensation difference does matter at times when the 2 yrs exp folks in these emerging technologies are having salaries double than what I have after 5+ yrs of exp ( this is what I've seen in my circle). Not comparing but I don't see myself touching that compensation even after 2 3 more years of exp in my current role 😅
Hey,chill.i have seen some of my teammates in Accenture similar to your exp have made a successful transition to ai/ml ,backend etc.
You can do it too.But if want to get into dev role make sure you are good at DSA
