Laid off, embaressed and sad

Got impacted in the layoff at Sharechat today after working 4+years here. Got the news an hour back and have not shared this with anyone in my family yet.

I am sad and have to share this news with my fiancee and in-laws today. Tell them why I have to cancel vacation plans and look out for a job instead.

I am into an arranged married and my in-laws are very conservative and don't understand tech work culture, I don't know how they will take the news of a layoff.

I'm anticipating they will be shocked, her asshole brother-in-law will even make fun of me.

To make it worse the fault is mine for believing I won't be laid off when my company was not doing well. I thought it would not happen to me and never looked out in advance.

Fuck 2023. What a shit show Christmas.

Some time down that lane, while looking back, you will realise how the dots are connecting!

Maybe Sharechat was a shit show to start off with?! With 4+ years you definitely have skills that will be required in organisations.
Yes it wasn't supposed to happen and it happened. I hope your fiancee has got your back !

I think she will be shocked since I have been telling her SC will not lay me off despite how it is performing.

She is HR in a tech startup so should understand. The market is harsh out there for she too

@Eggless_cake feel you bro. I'm in the same situation. Got laidoff from sharechat today. Didn't see this coming, I felt my role was secure considering the aop exercise we finished just last week. This coming from an employee who had 4 rating in the past 2 cycles. Was hoping for a promo case this cycle but the company had other plans

Thanks man, I’m taking the vacay, kinda need it especially after everything that’s gone down here in the last couple years.

The AOP had me confident too, I had a good rep with leadership and my manager as well but still happened.

We should have predicted this circus long back :/ another frustrated SC employee who joined this clown show back in 2019 ā˜¹ļø

For sure, between the AOP and confidant words from my manager I let my guard down.

Emailed a few recruiters already

Take the vacation my guy, you need it. It'll help re-energize before interview prep. Keeping the news to yourself makes sense for now

Don’t worry, many are in same boats.

I got laid off last month and what I’m doing is - daily applying new jobs and keep upskilling. Hoping one day I will get a job .

Also try to take some freelance work at low pay, just to get some cash flow, I’m saying even 10-20k per month but relevant to your experience and profile as it can help some learning’s also.

And Maybbe if you have some money saved or can manage for next 1-2 months, then better don’t say to family. Currently I have not told and I hope I can manage till February based on some savings which my family don’t know like 1-2l in stocks etc which I’m planning to take back and also severance pay.

Thank you for this, I am going to cool down for sometime before taking any action. I am strongly considering not telling anyone about it for sometime.

I could end up breaking a lot of trust if I hide it for long and do not get a job.

Everything will be okay bro. We employees are mercenaries, we live by the sword, we die by the sword.

Go on that vacation. The cycle and fortunes will turn around. And whenever they do, we strike hard

Bro don't cancel vacations. It's your hard earned vacation. Take time with family. You'll get a job soon.

Realised that, I’m taking it

I've been in this situation before. Looking back, it was a great learning experience, but very stressful.

I got a job in 25 days. Applied at 100s of places and asked for referrals. Got 5 interviews scheduled. The moment I converted at one place, I took it (it was also the best among those 5 places).

Hope you'll do well too.

If ur worth was determined based on ur job by ur in laws then I don’t think it’s worth marrying into. Only if ur wife is going to be on ur side then go ahead. For rest, all the best. I have seen ppl get into better place post layoff so I am sure u’ll also find a place even u didn’t know existed
