Should I go for an MBA?

Should I go for MBA in top 10 b schools india like IIMs, XLRI, SPJAIN, etc So a little background about myself. I graduated in 2023 from a tier college and managed to get an off-campus job in an investment bank as an SDE. My current salary is 24LPA. Would it be beneficial for me to do MBA from the above mentioned colleges Like would the placements there be better than what I have currently? Also if I can save enough money in 2 years would a MBA in US in a top 20 uni be better than MBA in IIM? I will be going for further studies sometime in 2025 or 2026. My main goal is to improve my salary and build a network. I have also managed my own dev agency and did freelance projects in the past 4 years. If anybody has gone through the same please let me know your experience. This also applies to MTech/MS as well Thank you.

From a salary perspective I don't think an MBA would help you as by the time you graduate you would actually be making less than what you are now + 2 years increment/switch hike. Even if considering an M7 MBA a few years down the line I won't recommend that these days. A faang or equivalent job after a MS these days pays similar to an MBA business role, not to mention shorter work hours. Not to mention it is cheaper .

Do you think an MS from US top 20 unis would be better in the long term? Because I want to be in a position where I am never redundant. That's my thought process behind an MBA. Because in case devs become obsolete I have something to fall back on and vice versa. Though chances of that happening are low.

Well to be honest MBAs have a higher chance of becoming redundant due to not upskilling with the changing work environment when compared to developers. But as long as you are like the top 5% in your field then you will most likely never become redundant. I understand a fancy MBA sounds really cool but if at the end of the day it doesn't add much value to your profile then it is kinda worthless. You can always do an executive MBA when you are like director/head etc. to move vertically in your org later.

1) If you’re open to going abroad - going to an MBA in the US might bring highest ROI 2) Do an MBA in India if you’re sure about wanted to switch from dev. And in that case aim for IIM or ISB 3) Otherwise you’re gonna make enough money in the current line of work. Stay in the right companies. Go to other product companies if possible.

Don't do MBA. JUST DON'T. Indian MBAs are worthless placement machines. They teach nothing. IIM A/B/C alumni here...

MBA for career advancement?

I (M22) currently have about 8 months (2023) of SWE experience working at a European tech company making roughly 12Lpa. I am planning of going for a MBA in the next 2-3 years but only if I get into a top b-school. I am highly ambitious and hope to climb the MANGA corporate ladder to a C suite/exec level position in the next 15-20 years. Will an MBA make sense for my goals and what sort of roles do tech giants usually hire for from top iims/isb and the likes? Is going for a MBA going to fast track my career or should I just grind the swe -> sdm -> director path with just a B.Tech degree ( Tier-2 private university)

What should be my next steps ?

Hi, I am currently 22, graduated recently from a tier 2 institute and currently working at a US based startup earning 18lpa ( almost all base ) + rsu's, lately my family have been nagging me to do a postgrad, I am confused weather I should do an MBA, MS or not do a postgrad at all considering the years I will miss in workex. What should be my best course of action considering ROI in the next 10-15 years ?? P.S. Currently I am not sure what my interest lies in, but just try to excel at whatever comes my way.

Hi, I am working in an mnc as a software developer since 2 years after graduating from a top tier IIT. But I don’t see myself doing this in the next 5 years. Should I do an MBA from top tier IIM college? I know it will not be beneficial in short term but in long term is it a good idea? Anyone from similar backgrounds do share your experience.

Thinking of doing an MBA degree Main factor worrying me is I'm making a good amount of money in my current job (20lpa, 2yoe), but I want to do an MBA to gain a broader perspective/get a business outlook/make friends😔/personal growth. I'm kinda hell bent on going for it, but also worried about how to extract time for prep etc as I would not want to go below the top 6-7 colleges. Need help deciding for further education: India or abroad.

I did my btech from IIT in 2022 and then have been working for the past 2 years. Now thinking of going for an MBA but confused about whether I should go to IIMs or go abroad for an MBA. I need help in deciding further steps as I want to plan it out for the year 2025. By that time I will have a work experience of 3 years.
