How does one verify the proof of work for candidates who share links of their work ?

We are hiring frontend developers. I'm not a recruiter in my organisation, but was tasked with going through the links the candidate has shared as proof of work (real life published projects). How does one verify that person sharing the links have actually worked on those projects ? PS: we are hiring remotely

You cannot. The Interview is everything. Spend time on interviewing a candidate. DS algo must be the last round. Basic concepts must be the first followed by Basic coding.

Well, two things come to mind. First is to share GitHub code and second is to ask them questions on how they built some part of the project and dive deep into it. Ask the why they chose to do x over y. Wouldn't y be better? Etc. This will help you understand both about the candidate's capability and make sure they actually built the project they are claiming to have.

1. Search on Google & YouTube with the project titles & some description. If you find a similar looking tutorial/blog, then đźš« 2. Check how they've committed code on GitHub. If they've uploaded the project by using files upload, then đźš«

Assignments as a part of interview process

Hi Wanted an opinion on how do you all tackle the assignment bit when it comes to assignments as part of hiring processes. One, how regular or normal is it at senior positions ? And two, I feel that a lot of times they just ask you to do everything that is expected of the job. Eg: Create a marketing strategy after analyzing landscape and top 3 competitors. Add graphs etc. I always have a concern of getting most out of you. Since its at round 1 they would be getting multiple such assignments, which means by design lpt of this work will be a waste and lots of inputs freely sourced. How do you all handle it ? Can you push back ? P.S: Am from business/ marketing aide of things and not sure of how it works for techies/ product.

I’m a VP of PM (14yoe). I keep getting CVs of fresh grads (<3 yoe) claiming they’ve incread engagement by 50% in thier internship or that made made the product grow 10x. Asking them in depth on how they achieved it gets me very generic answers. Which tells me either they are inflating thier numbers or just working on products that have very high PMF to begin with. Making big impact always takes time - understanding and solving a problem rarely happens within a day. They want to feel like they are changing the world with tech within a month of joining the org and peddle this BS to themselves and others.

How do I verify if a freelancing offer is legitimate?

Hey all! I have a person who pinged me on LinkedIn and says he has a freelance opportunity for about 800 to 900 usd a month. I asked him how much time I need to spend per week etc and he gave clear answers. Seems fair and I am ok with working more in the beginning of that gives me a second source of income. The only thing is, he only pays monthly and if he is a scammer, I would have worked for a month for free. Anyway to verify his offer's legitimacy? How do you guys handle such things if you have freelanced before?
