Sales people pretending to be dentists

Hearing that Toothsi is pushing their products very aggressively through unethical means which can really screw up customers teeth. If BYJUS had a reincarnation into a healthtech startup, I would imagine that would be Toothsi. Both education and health can be sold through fear mongering.

Context: Took my parent for a Piles checkup as the issue was flaring up. The first thing they checked was my insurance coverage details. The consulting doctor (more of a quack) recommended immediate surgery as 'it may lead to much greater complication if left untreated'. Inwas ready to go for it but my spouse recommended we see more doctors. Both the other doctors (very reputed) said this doesnt need a surgery and that my parent would need some rest and palliative care and that it would be ok in a few weeks. This is what exactly happened. Funny part - this was two years ago, but since my number was the registered number, I still get periodic calls asking me if I had decided to go ahead with the surgery and that Piles can only be managed with a surgery. The founder in any case, from his prolific Linkedin usage, seems like a righteous jerk who would rather believe that employees should not be expect compensation but be as loyal as dogs.

A few months ago I had posted here how Pristyn care was completely a sham and exploited fears. They basically exist to make money out of the insurers.

What's happening at Pristyn Care? Hearing a lot about gaps in their business models and how they are pushing people to opt for surgeries!

“Show me the incentives and I’ll show you the outcomes” - Charlie Munger. I haven’t yet found a profound statement to describe everything that happens commercially across the globe. Share your examples how incentives are misaligned with outcomes that you would expect so we can think deeper. Let me start off - 1. Relationship managers advising you to buy financial products that have high commission vs what’s appropriate for you. 2. Insurance agent / broker selling you policies with high commission with poor returns or missold benefits. 3. Doctors advising you to get a surgery when it may not be really needed. 4. Pharma companies potentially not finding cures when they keep you hooked lifelong on their drugs? 💀 These are some things I have wondered about. What about other examples?
