AI Scientist: The Future of Automated Research?

To all the devs (working professionals and students), how much do you rely on ChatGPT for your code? Do you explicitly use it to generate code logic, or only use it for debugging? Plus, do you think that the newer generation of students might miss out on the essence of programming with the advent of ChatGPT?

Humans mind are not trained to understand exponential nature of any trend.... Currently people are mocking AI because current models are not that good. However people are unable to see the double exponential trend with which AI is improving without any slowing down of scaling laws...Ray Kurzweil was indeed right! Hence it would be more prudent to plan a career path not by keeping capabilities of current models of AI in mind but by understanding how capable AI models would become in 2-3 years.

I know this is quite a sensitive topic but I'd rather face the truth. A couple of months ago, I was less worried, but now looking at the pace of development in IDEs and tools to help with software development, coding has been made much much simpler. Do you really think AI will take away jobs?

The AI Engineer, is the next new thing according to what I am hearing from top Leaders. One is involved in working with AI APIs and open-source models to productise AI capabilities. AI tasks that can now be accomplished with ease, thanks to the availability of foundation models and APIs. It also touches on the challenges in evaluating, applying, and productizing AI. AI Engineer is the new role to get. The title is on the rise. I have been interviewing and a lot of companies seem to hire AI Engineers compared to ML Engineers now. OpenAI has changed the game since models and APIs has significantly reduced the time and resources required to accomplish AI tasks, making it easier for AIx to work with these technologies. This is the greatest thing ever in the history of mankind. We had room sized computers in 1960s that could only compute simple calculations. Now you have a more powerful computer in your microwave. Now imagine, the day you can run GPT4 on your smartphone. The compute will get their with miniaturization of compute or offloading to cloud.
