All SWEs need to hear this

Hey folks, So, here's the deal - I'm a backend software engineer with skills in Ruby on Rails, Node.js, and TypeScript. My current company decided to f**k me by making fake promises, not giving raises, and expecting me to work even when there is chaos. I was put in a position to leave. Genuinely curious what is it that you think we do. In real life, I have had a great time with most engineers I have worked with. I know there's going to be a lot of trolling but looking for some meaningful answers to improve my rapport with tech folks.

Do you like to code? Do you like upscaling every year? How did you start liking it? If you don’t, how do you plan on staying in the industry? Serious answers only

Context: I am a software engineer with 4 years of experience. Everytime I work with a bunch of engineers (Especially Indian Startups). Most of them are workaholics. They are just working for some company full-time. They are interested in learning more about technology, making jokes about technology, following technology news, etc. That is it. No social life. (Especially after Covid). No skills in any other part of life. Their comfort zone is so small that they have developed a lifestyle of working, sleeping & watching something on laptops and that's it. They make an excellent salary but don't do anything else. Every time I meet a 35-40-year-old software engineer, it is just a physically unfit guy with an arranged marriage who is boring as a brick.

I don't know but every time this guy comes on my screen he is just shitting from his mouth. I mean the guy claims he has got a package of 60-70 lakhs worth of package, good for him. But what is up with him telling his viewers that you can also get a similar job by following his path. How delusional one has to be to shit this much on the internet. Haven't you heard of survivorship bias my friend. Additionally, why do you motivate your viewers to join this industry for money. Should not they be becoming a Software engineer only if they really feel like it and is their calling and not because someone on the internet said that they will make a ton of money. I don't know man, but people like him are the reason why this field has so much competition because they paint a rosy picture of how easy it is to earn lakhs of rupees. Plus i was watching a video of his where is simply googled react jobs and looked at the number of jobs on LinkedIn and said that there are so many jobs here. 🤡 Bro doesn't know how recruiters post jobs on LinkedIn and how the whole process works. I wish him all the success in the world in his career but please dude just don't misguide people on the internet.

I am a data scientist with 4.5 years of experience and want to transition to software engineering. In DS, we do not code the ways its done in SW roles. Moreover, I am not from CS background. How do I get started on preparing to get into tier 1 companies as SWE / SDE if I want to achieve this in the next 1/1.5 years?

Hi All, I have 6 YOE. Initial 2.5 years I worked as Backend developer in Python, Django, AWS and Little bit JS. After that all of my experience is in Data Engineering mostly in GCP (have few certifications as well.) Currently I am working at Walmart. Most of the work I do in Data side is adhoc and projects are also not upto the expectations lot of manual work is also there. I am not really enjoying my career as data engineer. Pay is good. I am thinking to move back to Software Engineering, 1. is it a good idea for long term? 2. What skill should I focus on if I have to move back? 3. Is it just the projects that I am working on making data engineer look less interesting to work ?

I always come across these profiles and JDs which mention "Computer Scientist I/II" at Adobe. Are they real computer scientists? Do they invent things? Are they the ones working with NASA, MIT, STANFORD, Google Brain etc. I don't know if developing a framework qualifies you to call yourself a scientist. I don't know. Please shed some light.
