After few years in the interviews you will be asked what mistakes you made , what risks you took, what did you learn  
 This is an opportunity for you 😀 
 If the decision is reversible just go ahead if you think it right thing to do 
 If it is not make you sure you have identified the risk and mitigated it

Do not make the mistake of going into a shell if you are tensed. Ask for help ..

Seek a little more guidance from a peer or senior. This is a learning phase. Don’t create doom and gloom scenarios in your mind, albeit it is understandable when starting out. 
 Keep learning! 
  
 When I first started out, I screwed up something because my manager didn’t help me out and I was too hung up on not asking for help if it wasn’t offered. It was just the start of my career. It definitely stung and I get bad but I’m retrospect, I had no guidance and was a total blank slate from an experience point of view. 
 As others mentioned, you’ve got a long way to go. “Its not a sprint, it’s a marathon” is something that helped me look at the bigger picture

 I think statement might have it relevance based on industry and state of the company, but as you said its not a start-up anymore, I guess you can apply this here.  
  
 Chill man. Learning from mistakes is still you learning rather than anything else. 😉

Hi everyone
I graduated about 2 months back and have joined a startup(it's really big, can't call it a startup now)

Most of the people around me have an avg work ex of 5-6 years prior to joining and I am the only fresher in this division.

I am too afraid to make mistakes since I feel doing so would take opportunities away from me, given that you've more experienced people on the team as well.

To make the situation worse, I got scolded(not really, but the situation was too tense) by my manager a few days back.

I want to work and capitalise on more opportunities however I invariably make slight mistakes which I am afraid will cost me my growth here.

Any suggestions or views on this?

Hi folks,
I recently got laid off from a startup where 50% of the engineering team was let go. I was working as an SDE and during a restructuring, my role was changed to SDE-2 without any increase in pay or responsibilities. I have a total of 2.5 years of experience. In my first company (where I worked for a year), there weren't many projects, so I didn't have the opportunity to learn or code much. However, in my second company, I primarily worked on the backend using Go, Django, Kafka, MongoDB, & PostgreSQL.
I realize that although I gained exposure in my second job, I didn't delve deeply into the technologies. I mainly focused on completing business tasks quickly, learning new things just to finish the task at hand, without solidifying my understanding afterward.
My experience seems suitable for an SDE-2 role, but I'm unsure if I can perform the role with complete honesty and may struggle. Some friends in similar situations reassure me that this struggle is common in SDE-2 roles. However, I feel I might be better off starting again as an SDE-1, focusing on my weak areas, and aiming for a promotion later. There are very few SDE-1 job openings currently.
I am actively interviewing for SDE-2, and not able to clear system design interviews. Tbh, I feel very humiliated as when I am not able to answer their questions it feels like I am wasting their time or they would be thinking: Oh this guy has been working for so long and doesn't even know anything.

Now I get it why people think Indian Software engineers are not that good in comparison to other countries' devs: the reason is people like me. 
This realization burdens me with guilt, occupying my thoughts constantly. However, I am confident that I can crack SDE-1 easily. I have good DSA & good enough LLD, &HLD skills for SDE1. I am looking for companies who can match my prev Salary: 22 L, 2 Bonus.
Can u help how to navigate this career situation effectively without increasing my guilt or feeling constantly humiliated?

First work on the feeling of humiliation and self worthlessness. Don't ignore this, I've done it and it's one of my biggest regret. Working on this will feel a waste of time initially given job search is highest priority, I assure you your future self would thank you.  
  
 Now you are clearly very self aware, most incompetent people don't even know their shortcomings. And you know what, many comparatively incompetent people are making much more money, having much less self doubt and just living more - it's like being more self aware is a curse.  
  
 How do you get out of this curse? It's a slow process. Write down the things that make you feel that way, come up with an an action plan on what you could do to reduce that - clear goals and actions always relive anxiety. Writing things down is extremely important, keep coming back to it whenever you feel the same way, eventually you would reason your way out of this. Most of the time you are in a loop, living in guilt and self doubt for the same reasons over and over. Documentation of these feelings over time will make it look so silly, how could the same problem give you so much mental pain again and again.  
  
 You will do just fine career wise. With a few more years of experience, I can guarantee you will evolve over time, the problems giving you so much mental pain would seem very trivial then - that if you are able to resolve these feelings - otherwise it's a hell I wouldn't want for my worst enemies.  
  
 Some questions to ponder over -  
 1. Can you do the job search while being just a little gentle on yourself? 
 2. Does failure mean you have no worth? Can you fail more gracefully?  
 3. Does 2.5 years of mistakes(even if it see that way) mean you can't do amazing things in coming years? 
 4. Above all, does feelings of humiliation and worthlessness help you in any way? If nothing else changes, wouldn't it be better to just be a little gentler on yourself? 
  
 Take care, you don't have a career problem, a mental health one instead

I am a software engineer with 3 years of experience .For the first two initial years I was working as a QA in one of the good product companies with a very sorted work life balance .
I had recently switched to a BE role in a startup 
I am very much lagging behind here because of my QA background  ,the people here are very much talented and are great problem solvers .How do I reach that level ?
I have been  struggling to keep up with the pace here and finding it difficult to approach the tasks,even though i have been giving so much of time to work .
And the TL  in my team have a certain amount of expectations and hence they don't help according to that .(which i feel is fair)
How should I approach this  and level up here 
Anyone with a similar background and story please share your experience :)

Hii, I'm a front-end developer having around 3 years of work experience. I got laid-off in 2023 just after 1.8years in an organisation. Then I joined another company and got laid off in 6 months. Now I have an offer from early stage startup but I'm too scared to accept it because of my experience. But on the other hand I don't have any offer as well. Will it look bad on my resume. I don't know... I've started thinking that something is wrong with me otherwise what is the chances of getting laid off twice within same year. 
First I loose my peace of mind because of work pressure and then I loose my work... pretty f**cked up situation.
I have never been this unde confident. 
What do you think shall I take the offer from startup again or wait few more months or more to get into good mnc??

2 Layoffs in 2 years

I interned at a company for more than 10 months.
Gave my heart and soul to it
They made me work late nights, gave me so much work
I completed them all
And now they denied a full time offer citing budget reasons
I feel like a loser now. This is so not fair. Now placements at college are also over so theres no hope left
Completely loss of words.

I have been working in this startup for around 1.5 years now, and soon I am going to be the only developer here, as the other 2 devs are going to leave soon.
The company is now calling me to Bangalore.
I am thinking as there will be no devs my growth will be very less, as this is my first organisation after graduation.
But looking at the market situation it feels like I should just continue with the current org.
I am not sure what to do.

4yoe Engineer turned Product Manager. It's been 8 months I joined this B2B SaaS startup as an APM. Engineering team... mostly interns. Most of my time goes into execution following up with devs. Is the PR reviewed, is the bug fix deployed. No Jira, scrum, sprint planning whatsoever.

CEO runs the whole show. Only fear driven product management. I have no idea what it means to work on vision or strategy. My career has started off with a shitty foundation. Everyday I feel like quitting. What should I do? Quit right away or wait n switch to a better company?

Hi all,
I am currently interning at a US medical device healthcare giant.
Its been close to 5 months I'm here. Till now I haven't been assigned any implementation tasks
All I get to do is dry runs, debugging and documentation

PPO is also not guaranteed. It's based on performance.
I feel very scared what would happen if I don't get the PPO. Apart from that, I feel shy asking help from seniors because
a) They are super busy. Always on meetings
b) I feel they would think I'm stupid for asking silly doubts

Even no proper KTs have been given. It's like F around and figure out.

Please advice me how to actually come out of this situation. This is my first corporate experience and I feel worried and scared each day

Both environments have benefits and drawbacks. It really depends on your personality and goals.

In a large corporation, you’ll be surrounded by people with a wide variety of working styles, expertise, approaches and backgrounds. You’ll have access to more resources and responsibility will be shared with other team members. You will have opportunities available to you, but you’ll likely have to pursue them yourself unless you have a really good manager supporting you. Otherwise, it can be easy to become a cog in the machine. The pressure is generally lower and so is the recognition. You can screw up royally and you’ll probably just get moved to another project. Even if you don’t screw up, you may find yourself shuffled between projects.

In a startup, there will be more focus on you to deliver, train yourself and be independent. While you’ll likely be part of a smaller, more integrated team, there will be a much higher expectation that you can be self-motivated and deliver results. The learning opportunities that you have will be more along the lines of being tossed out of a plane with some fabric and a sewing kit and you’ll need to figure out how to make a parachute really quickly. The risks are higher, but so is the reward.

It’s like the difference between taking the bus or riding a motorcycle.

The bus is reliable and it will get you where you’re going, you have very little control over the specific bus, route, the driver, the other passengers, etc. You’re unlikely to get injured in a crash. It’s safe, minimal risk and ultimately putting your fate in someone else’s hands.

The motorcycle is fast, you’re in control every step of the way, you could easily get yourself killed if you do something stupid and if the weather, roads or other drivers get in your way, you’re not likely to get to your destination smoothly. But if you do, you’ll beat

I want to share my experience as a fresher at Accenture, my first company from a college placement. The first six months were fine, but then I faced severe mental harassment from my supervisor and manager. She constantly criticized my work and gave negative feedback, causing me immense stress. I often skipped meals and worked weekends to improve, but nothing helped.

Despite reporting the issue and requesting a supervisor change or a different track, my requests were ignored. The harassment worsened, affecting my physical health, and I couldn't eat or sleep properly. My manager controlled trivial aspects like where to sit and whom to talk to, making the situation unbearable. I was even forced to switch from a developer role to a tester, despite being trained as a developer.

The final straw was being placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) without a clear reason, with the same harassing individuals assessing me. I only had 1.9 years of experience then. I reported the mental harassment to HR and resigned due to deteriorating health, panic attacks, and weight loss. Despite having no other job offer, I couldn't continue. Even during my notice period, I was forced to complete PIP assignments, which led to suicidal thoughts and further health issues.

Now, I am jobless, feeling helpless and frustrated. With less than 2 of experience, I struggle to find offers in a down IT market and don't know what to do next.

So I'm an intern at this bootstrapped startup which is doing really good (touchwood). Three months into my joining, everything was hunky dory but lately my manager has turned less friendly.

She points out little mistakes, asked me to create reports on things that went wrong, uses aggressive language on common slack channels. I'm really not sure what I've done to **** her off. 

Yes I did make a couple of mistakes here and there but I put in my 100% effort to see them fixed and talk to her nicely and respectfully. I'm lost. I also think if this will hurt my PPO chances :( I want to know if this is okay and me working extra hard will solve this or should i do something else about this?

Total Experience: 7 years
Domain: Sales
Education: Tier 2 Engineering College
Current TC:  Rs. 60L + ESOPs (mentioning the compensation as it's relevant)

Throughout my life, I have been discriminated against due to not having a pedigree. I have had to work my ass off to reach where I am today.

Currently I'm at a senior position in a startup incubated by an MNC. I still face the following concerns:

1. Extreme difficulty while applying for jobs; Example: my exceptional performance in my previous organisation was not known outside and since I didn't have any "pedigree", I was considered overpaid in the job market.

2. I did join at a decent hike after an year of search and even in the new company, I don't command a lot of respect due to the lack of fancy tags like IIT/IIM/ISB/Booth/LSB/Insead,etc.

What should I do? Does an MBA make any financial sense to me at this Experience and Compensation? If yes, where should I try for an MBA?

Started working in a new org two months back as a PM.
while discussing new requirememts with the tech I am always affraid that whatever I am saying is correct or not. As I am not familiar with all the systems.
Sometimes during sprint planning tech will tell me or my manager would say you missed this scenario or this functionality works like this so we may have some issue in approach you are taking.
