Infact, you can invest in debt funds instead of FD
But fd is more secure than mutual funds or debt funds right !!! Is there any thing i am missing

You are asking opposite question.
Time horizon is very important to be defined before choosing debt fund.
Your return is mainly depends on your time horizon.
