Balancing short-term goals with long-term vision.

been working at a product based startup as the only ui/ ux designer for over 6 months now. work is usually solving for and designing new features, or thinking redesign from user grievances. the products were already designed for them by an agency before my joining and feel poorly designed to me, but does the job for the users. decisions regarding usage and the how-tos of implementation are taken by the product leads. in such a scenario, i don't see myself taking product decisions, but i try to suggest my ideas (mostly accepted) when we frame the requirements and solutions. how do i grow from just largely only designing what my leads tell me, to actually making an impact with the products we have? background- i'm an electronics engineer, landed a design internship at a startup a little before graduation and they offered a full time role after. accepted it over my placement and it's been over 6 months in this role. thanks & cheers :)

Lately i have been struggling to cope up with my work and family . It’s been very difficult at my work lately. Also my personal life is a roller coaster mentally! I feel difficult to cope up. People at my work are sarcastic about my performance even though i am fulfilling all my basic tasks. I sleep very late thinking about all these things especially my personal struggles! How are you guys coping up?

What's the one thing you had wanted to change / start / stop doing this year - call it resolution at the beginning of the year? How are you doing on that? I wanted to get into a better rhythm on fitness and sustain the good eating habits from last year. Where am I? After a wasted JFM quarter, did somewhat okay in Apr, May and June. July has been not too bad. Baby steps: trying to get 3-4 hours in a week for fitness. I have realised habit formation is a function of stacking. When I workout on Saturday, I want to go to the gym on Sunday too and then on Monday and Tuesday and so on.. When I miss 2 days in a row, then I degrade to saying okay, let's start on Sunday - as a fresh week. Trying to break out of that and convincing myself today is as good as Sunday. :P Definitely improved, but a long way to go. Would love to know about others here on and hope to get more inspiration. As they say, one day at a time. So do you want to wait till Jan'24? :)

Let me start by listing mine 1. Get into shape 💪 - I’ve set a target weight for myself, and a target muscle mass and body fat percentage 2. One book a month 📕 - This is something I’ve tried over and over but never seemed to achieve. 3. Delve deeper into devops 🔄 4. Complete a few side projects I’ve had in my backlog for months 5. Quit smoking 🚭 What are yours?

How do you keep yourself motivated and disciplined. I almost forgot that this is a new year. Yes, I'm supposed to be motivated and work on my resolutions 🥲, I often find myself settling for less and slipping into a comfort zone. Occasionally, I get bursts of motivation and make plans, but I struggle to stay on track. My attention span has reduced, and I easily get distracted, especially with phone notifications. I've tried digital well-being tools, but the real solution seems to be strict discipline. How do others tackle this issue? I'm eager to learn from different perspectives and strategies.

I have over 5 years of experience in product management and have worked with 2 companies in the past. On multiple occasions i felt that I am struggling with what to build next. Generating a laundry list of ideas could be easy but generating an impactful roadmap is something that i struggle with. Is this because I am incompetent as a product manager or other PMs also get stuck in similar situations, if yes then what do you do to come out of it?

A lot of noise around AI taking coding jobs, which i fear might be real. Like not completely but you get my point. So how should one upskill themselves (especially the average folks, top 1/2% will not be affected in any field imo) for the upcoming shift? Like will data analytics/science or maybe ai/ml engineering jobs be on rise ? Should be start upskilling in those fields or any other suggestions? I would really like to know it from someone who has good experience in the industry or someone with good insight. Thanks
