Be Honest: Do you feel superior to your friends who have a lower CTC?
Hi Grapeviners, I don’t think I’m a bad person but I do consider myself superior to some friends from same background who I earn a lot more than. Do you also feel this superiority, or are you indifferent?

I envy my friends with ancestral wealth.
That's it nothing related to earning.

Coincidentally, I don't have any friends who have ancestral wealth.
What's the cause of that envy? Eg., The don't have to work as much?

I never feel superior to the ones I am earning more than, but rather feel inferior from the ones who I secretly know earn more than me (I never ask salary, no matter how close the friendship).
I know comparison is a thief of joy, but I can't help it.
Well said: “comparison is a thief of joy”
I’m my case I have help but feel bad for people who don’t earn as much as me

What's your feeling when you know people who are earning more than you?
Like lee007 said above, I am also proud of what I have achieved today. From not having 5rs to eat vadapav during college days, not being able to crack exams at 80-90% (was always at 60%), having heard "kya aukat hai re teri?" to being a CTO of a fancy startup. I pay more in tax than some of these friends' CTC.
I feel superior too but that's because despite having enough hard cash at hand to buy a BMW, I still live within the means. I have what it takes to be in control of myself. Never had a drink or a cigarette in my life. I am glad that I have supporting wife. Owe alot to parents :)

Well job is temporary. Today you might feel superior tomorrow if you lose job those folks can help you out
What goes up comes down
A small suggestion to everyone
Do not inflate your lifestyle with increase in your salary.
Not superior but secretly self proud.( I have never asked anyone their salary.)
Because, I was average/below average in academics everyone else had 80%+
And I dedicated the entire year 2021, with much sacrifices to preparation that I landed a good role with good salary, above what I thought I was worth..(although laid off now)
Sometimes that self proud feeling is what you need to be self motivated. Now I know I'm worthy enough for the roles I'm applying, keeping up my confidence.
Not superior but am highly proud of myself
Even though I did hard work but grabbing the right opportunities made me what I am today.
Luck also has a small role to play can't deny that.
In early days my frnds were getting double to my initial package, now after 5 years am getting 3 times to what they are earning and My first year monthly salary is my daily salary now.
I know salary should not be the only parameter to compare but it made me more confident which I never was being from a small town and from a Tier-5 college.
Deep down I know I got a bit lucky than people surrounding me .

I feel lucky, but also know the tables can turn anytime. Right now tech in India is booming, but a lot of the high salaries are driven by VC money. If there's not enough exits, they'll stop investing all this money and tech bros like me won't get the inflated salaries we've become used to.

Recently I never feel that. Never know when you'll be laid off and earn less than them in the next job or live without income
I feel sad for them because they are not trying hard enough. If I can do it then they can also.
