Hi, I’ve been in sales for last 5+ yrs working across top companies in media, SaaS, and now recently MarTech. I’ve mostly dealt with new age companies as my clientele which is good because I don’t want to deal with tough personas or rather too traditional ones. 

Tbh the last 5 yrs have just passed by where I didn’t take a moment to reflect what my actual skill set is and spent most of my career trying to fake it till I make it. I cannot go on like this forever and I think I should switch to another role before its too late. 

People who have switched from sales to another role, I would love to hear your journey, what steps you took, how did you identify your next switch, how do you feel about your decision now?

I have about 5 years of experience working in sales for both product and service companies (startups and MNC). However, in the long run I don't want to be in sales. I want to eventually move into something where my work has some sort of impact. Can be: product management, business strategy, internal or client consulting or maybe something else which I'm not sure of. As I'm in the middle of taking a break currently to figure this out, I want to understand how I can transition into these roles without a master's degree? Is it practically possible? If yes, then how should I go about it?

Has anyone here, moved away from Software Development to something else. Maybe in a completely different direction, like became a graphics designer, or Game developer etc. or in a similar direction, like went towards Product Management or something similar. 

If yes, then I want to know your experience with the switch, and the steps you took to make it happen. 

I got into Software engineering 2-3 years ago (attracted by the salaries) but now I just don’t feel like doing it anymore at all. 

I asked a friend who’s a PM, and his take on this was, if i wanted to keep earning how much I currently do (20-30 LPA), and want to go even further than that, then SDE is the only option, PMs do not get paid that much amount, when compared to SDEs in the longer run. 

What’s your take on this?

Hey, so to introduce myself. I recently graduated from a new IIM and got into a product manager role at a bank where I have the responsibility of launching a new product. I always thought that I would end up in a sales role and did my internship as a market research intern as well. Now, I have no idea how to proceed with my current role. I have no tech background with a bachelor's in science and MBA in marketing & strategy. 

Would like to know if I should stay in this role(tbh I like the tasks) or should I change to sales because a fresher with no tech background would always be at a disadvantage 
And if I choose to stay, how do I go on from here? What skills/certifications/steps should I take.

I am on the lookout for a Sales role (startups). Have 15+ YOE working for Hotel chains in the past and then transitioned into Startups ( 3 large unicorns) and have been on both B2B and B2C as well. Now working in a bootstrapped startup (profitable). Reason for leaving, company is great and is into Media (advertising). I look after their Business for one of the verticals, but since 12 years they havent set processes here in this place and now they have though of pivoting, but the people who have been here since inception are only used to one way of working and changing certain peoples mindset is becoming a challenge.

I am trying other platforms, thought of putting it here as well.
