I think edtech is still going to be useful to bridge gaps that traditional education cannot fill. Traditional education is still too expensive normal kids and edtech will provide access to great teachers to everyone over the long run. 

But yeah in the short term ed tech is in a bad place 🤣

BYJU'S set to fire another 4,000 employees

Paying exorbitant salaries was going to bite them sooner or later, feel sad for those who will loose their jobs. But again have come across ppl who were paid insanely and were laid off not wanting to take a pay cut and join somewhere, infact they will ask more than what was their inflated last drawn salary. Not willing to realise the harsh reality of the current situation.

First the audit report got delayed. Now they’ve reported a loss of over 4.5k cr. And I believe they’re like a mothership of edtech, if they gone down then the entire category goes down from an investment perspective

What’s happening with byjus?

A lot of people at Unacademy have already resigned, and they are unable to hire replacements from the market( for who knows what reasons). Now as we all know people who are left in the organisation are going to have a tough time. 

Leaves not being approved, longer hours at work, mental harassment in the name of being available 24*7  is becoming a day to day thing. Now they are forcing people to take up sections of business one has never dealt with and are threatening to fire them if they are denying those roles. 

People who left the organisation in 2022 are the luckiest and well a bunch of well informed individuals who saw the end of this company before anyone else could have.

The new manager doesn't care about health , does back bitching, says mera kaam hona chaiye legit thekedaari style and I don't care , asks to work on weekends , takes all the credit , asks to come to office when most of the team is working remotely. 

It's a new Byjus in making !

Truly a sad time for the Edtech ecosystem.

Rumors from the grapevine - Byjus has laid off a lot of people in the tech team. A person i know who works there mentioned 7 out of 10 people in his team were laid off.

I have been on this journey for a long time now. Lots of failure comes with loads of learning. Each step or initiative I took has helped me grow as a person, the business guy (ed-tech, media space), and also in terms of technicalities (full-stack product management, hardcore hands-on into technology and I love user experience)

Edtech is dead, agreed. But we haven't reached the quality of output which is expected from education in India. We don't have quality outputs, most youngsters are unemployed and this change has to start from education. 

Byju, UA or Vedantu are the highest valued edtechs but they are not the face of what an education company should be like in a country like India. Let's leave them to the karma of their shortcomings and cheating. 

On a serious note trying to understand how we can use amalgamation of tech and education to get the desired result.
