Can’t think of good startup ideas!
Want to build a AI startup. Finding it impossible as 1) Incumbents with distribution and data will easily build AI to their products 2) I don’t have PhD to build something truly innovative. 3) For consumer space, I don’t think it’s possible to build a new device or a OS etc (Incumbents again!) I seriously wonder how startup founders start something! Do they just BS VCs about nice ideas and raise money? Any tips *from actual founders* will be useful

Starting up is like committing suicide. You cannot plan it. It's a split second thought and you take a decision immediately. If you search for an idea you may not find it immediately. But somewhere down the time at least the expected moment you will find it.

The approach or the thought process which you are trying is to innovate or invent something new which why it feels tough.
The approach should be to develop a better version of the current product.

Non-CS engineer switched to Product.
Execute - Fail
Evaluate - Re-execute - Fail
Re-evaluate - Execute - Fail
Do this with few versions of strategy until you feel your first win in the market.
Down the lane, market will give you a warm hug
Work for these ‘incumbents’ and use your ideas to further develop their products - will give your entrepreneurial spirit a boost, plus you will also get to learn

Why you need to think
If there is problem that your facing you need to solve
Execute! Just repeat what's already successful in a big market. Pick a niche and solve the same problem specifically for that niche.

Solve something which solves for you.
Like meal planning an ordering, pick up a problem close to you and your age group.
Execute and reiterate.

There are no incumbents in AI, just go build what you like and stop worrying about competition. In fact learn from their mistakes and execute better than them.
