Irony but companies would say that it’s responsibility of employee. Even though laptop is provided for their convenience also so that in case of emergency, at any point of time, employee can work. I had faced same kind of issue recently where I need to pay good amount while doing F&F.

I’m curious—do you use your personal laptop or your company-issued one for personal tasks? I’m considering buying a new 15” MacBook Air (around 70k INR with an exchange bonus), but I’m wondering if it’s worth it since I can do almost everything on the company laptop.

Is it really necessary to spend that amount? What do you all think? Do you prefer using your company laptop or your personal one for personal tasks?

Recently, our company has been preparing for an IPO, so they’ve started tracking activity and blocking some sites. I’m unsure if it’s still wise to use the company laptop for personal stuff.

P.S. If you do use a personal laptop for certain tasks, why not use the company one for those instead?

I see a lot of posts about WLB, I want to know what do you consider as a decent WLB. I will go first.

1. Leave early if the work for that day is done
2. No pings and calls post work hours, there are always exceptions and thats okay, should not become a norm
3. Respecting when someone is in vacation and not disturbing them.
4. Not rejecting leaves 

I will add more in comments If more comes to my mind.

A friend of mine left a small startup (less than 10 people) because they were paying him peanuts inspite of high workload (9am to 11pm, remote work) and were not willing to give any raise (they were paying him less than 50k per month after working for them for 6 years).

They often used the carrot dangling tactics where they would promise him and the others for "bright future ahead", which would eventually fizzle out to nothing but excuses.

Now that he has left, they are not clearing his FnF settlement of last 2 month's salary but are asking him to return his laptop. They are saying that they don't have any money and the current clients are not paying anything, and they can only pay when the clients pay them.

Can they take any action if he decides to not return the laptop till his FnF settlement is cleared ?

PS: the laptop is clean, no monitoring software installed. It had been completely formatted before being given to him. So it's as good as a personal laptop.

i have received some amount today from Cognizant as salary today. But the catch is that I worked in Cognizant a year ago ( left around Sept 2022 ) . And even joined another company which i resigned from this july. Right now i am on a break from work unemployed due to medical reasons. And i really got some amount today as salary. I'm joining a remote company, and they usually send employees amazon gift cards so that they can buy laptops.

In the case of India, since the max gift card amount is 10k rupees, it is a little inconvenient. Hence, they're sending me the money to buy it myself, but I'm worried if this amount will be considered taxable.
