Cursing the Indian Startups
I go through multiple posts every day. Every one is cursing their company. The bosses are bad. Managers suck. Company is fraud. Is it always the company, managers , bosses at fault. How can we create better work environment in Indian Startup’s.?
This is a small sample.
People write 100x more of their negative experiences than positive ones.
There are 100s of startups where culture, work etc is good imo.
Yes. I work in a startup based out of SG. I feel going for interviews at times but seeing these posts get scared. I am not sure if we have set higher expectations from employers than we should or there is something seriously wrong with Indian startup scene.

I was looking out recently, didn't apply to any Indian startup, the road is bumpy but would prefer Overseas startups over Indian any day

People complain period. If you say I love company x, some joker will come.and say I worked there it's full of politics and bullshit and no one knows anything.
It's a waste of time to argue with anonymous jokers so no one bothers to put great reviews about their company. Result: you see only shitty reviews.
In an app like this why would you expect great reviews...will probly be from HR or the founder only :)
If we have right to complain then we should also acknowledge if a company cares of WLB or our mental health. There would be new graduates who will be joining corporates. Few positive comments will have long lasting impacts on them.

You have right to complain. Currently it's like oh I was not allowed to work remotely because my Funda in life is to travel 6 months a year so wlb sucks. Everyones like fuck yeah this is horrible.
A startup is where you slog. Fuck wlb sometimes. These vc funds have made it easy to show headcount that does nothing, so they overhire and never get profitable. People who slog really slog and the rest get awesome wlb and all that
You want such stuff go to stable companies. The current funding env will force you to, and perhaps startup culture will be back to "whatever it takes". I'm old fashioned so yes I'll piss many of you off but honestly, who gives a fuck

Tbh if you are at a startup your priority should be the mission. The problem they are trying to solve for. The road would be crappy. Long hours, unstructured setups but the goal could be rewarding. It is a high risk high reward setup. People are bound to complain. If someone wants a chill setup they can work at an established company. That would solve their problem regarding environment.

It's only a few who actually complain about things like this. LOTS more people are either stuck in the system or perpetuating it. The leaders should discourage a shitty culture, only then it's possible to make it better. If any of you are managers or leaders, please start with RESPECT. Long hours, layoffs are all part of the game sometimes.
But respect every single person in your team.
Sometimes just the words "I hear you, I'm here for you, let's get through this shit as a team" is all that matters.
But many managers are hell bent on blaming and stealing credit.
Strongly agree to this. 👍 Everyone deserves respect. No matter how lower they are in the hierarchy.

Every post on Grapevine shits on every Indian startup. I'm not surprised at all.

People curse start-ups and thier culture because founders behave in that manner. They want long hours for people sacrifice everything for the mission. But the first thing they do after realising funds is buy a sports cars and a penthouse. This is what make people call it a scam.
In a country where people hate the ones being successful. Being showy in fancy cars and asking others to slog for you and then firing them makes it worse. As for as I know the negative attitude about start-ups was not this much a year back.

Entitled crowd aint seen nothing, cribbing full time.
Even ppl with 80L-1Cr feel underpaid.
I have been in town hall where employees were asking for cash in lieu of free food company was providing in office earlier but stopped during covid WFH....
Then in the same breath they wanted internet & furniture payments as well for WFH setup.
Hahaha. People chose Arvind Kejriwal as CM when he promised few freebies. Few of us want everything and not do anything.
