Did you plan your career or go with the flow? Are you satisfied with your outcomes?

Question: when you started your professional career you must have imagined where you'd wanna be in the next few years! (Assumption). Are you where you wanted to be? If not have you given up and accepted or are striving to be where you wanted to be?

Questioning life choices currently. I think I gave taken the wrong path for myself. I don't really know what would suit me. I know that it's alright to f around and figure out stuff early career but I'm worried about my salary and career trajectory. As in, I do not want to be stuck in entry level roles forever. What do you think? Any anecdotes?

Doston, I'm a 26 year old, run-of-the-mill MBA grad who has just been coasting through life until a very recent and intense encounter with the perils of modern life. Background brief: Academics : 8/5/8; MBA from NMIMS Mumbai ~2yrs of work ex in sales; have worked in financial sales, currently working in non-alco bev sales I have very few hard skills and am not sure where to start. Still, I'm seduced by other lucrative jobs/profiles such as finance, PM, consulting, which feel inaccessible at this point. I've accepted that there's nothing I can do to change the past, but I'm seeking guidance on how to shape my career from this point forward. I've gotten very comfortable now. WFH many days, take regular yoga and breaks without anyone asking where I've been. As long as I'm getting my work done and I'm in the meetings I need to be in, no one really asks me what I'm doing. Sometimes it nags me that I could be doing better things with my time but the money is just too good. So I'm asking you all, how did you decide where that balance was and if you're happy with your choice?

Over the past couple of weeks that I have been on GV, seeing far too many career advice asks, especially from recent or near future graduates. Decisions seem to be at the crossroads all the time. My view on career shaping, after wading through the career waters for as long as I have: A Career is Lived Forward but Understood Backwards. Don't overthink your current situation(s), be a consistent learner and grab the breaks & opportunities that you get. Almost all successes that you see around you are "Right place, Right time". Luck plays an inordinate role in your successes, but you need create your luck - create the environment and momentum for things to come your way.

2011-12 - Spent a year writing short story. Got published with a sister brand of Penguin 2013-15 - Built pages on Facebook with 11M+ followers. Started my own content websites; earned via AdSense 2015-18 - Quit the previous gig to work as a full time. Content writer to manager to Performance Marketer to social media head to editor in chief among 3 different organisations. 2019-21 - Quit textual content for video. Marketed multiple TVF shows and YouTube sketches. Built Tiktok. Delivered multiple influencer led campaigns at Radio Mirchi. Now, in this journey, I had taken two paycuts as I had accumulated good money in the first three years. Plus, my idea was "If I diversify and learn multiple things, I'll get better at my job. So, salary would be a byproduct" That, however, hasn't happened. I'm at 40-50% of my ex-colleagues with similar experience. 2023 - Joined a fintech, taking care of my UI, UX, Customer experience, education, etc. Any comments on my fate?
