Dissociate from work

I am seriously asking this question, how do you work less In office, when you know you can do your work sorta easily, but you also know that whatever work you are doing is senior level work, ie not your pay scale? 🤡 I it just me or am I making sense??

I was in a remote job from 2020, until last year where I was laid off in November. Then when I started searching for new companies my priority was to work on site, but again I got a remote job. My problem is living in the house 24*7 make it dull after sometimes and you forgot the line between personal life and work life. All I did was waking up in the bed and then opening laptop and vice versa in the night. Plus you don't have social interaction. Now I have become an introvert living in my own room and it takes enormous energy to go out and meet people. Is remote job really worth it wasting my 20's sitting in the home ? How are you folks coping up with this thing?

I have been into programming since I was 15. I have been working in the IT industry for the past 8 years and have been very successful in my domain because of my will to solve problems at work as interesting puzzles. But this interest has slowly and gradually formed a huge part of my life to a level that if I am away from it for sometime, it gives me anxiety. I am afraid this will affect my other parts of life like giving attention to my family, spending ample time with them. As a process, I started to have no code Saturdays so that I am completely away from my laptop and spend time doing other mundane things. But this has not reduced the anxiety. Any suggestions for reducing my workaholic nature ?

Ever since 2020, it feels like years have passed within weeks. I can't possibly explain this in words, but for some reason, time has been passing a bit too fast. Before I realized it, my graduation was completed, someone who would seem a grown-up to the person I was before the lockdown. Festivals don't seem to make me happy now, and neither does having friends and going out with anyone...everything seems normal and everything goes by before I can process anything on my mind. Is it just me? I can't feel any emotions like I used to, is it something that all grown-ups go through/suffer with?

Was thinking about our lives. Ever since you are in school, you have something to look forward to. When you’re in 1st grade, you know next year it’s 2nd grade and so on till you finish your undergrad. Suddenly, you could be everything or nothing at the same time. Those who are good at this game of eternal growth end up grinding their lives away in the PCM -> Engg -> B-School -> Consulting hell loop. Weirdly, the determinism in growth fades away suddenly and you see people finally pursuing diverse fields. Then, the realisation kicks in. You’ve been conditioned to chase eternal growth. That is what brings meaning to you in every part of your life. Today has to be better than your yesterday, or else it feels like you’ve failed. I wonder how sustainable that is but till then we will continue to throw our youth away. My 2 cents: You have a brief moment in history. Don’t spend your 10 years of prime in doing things that don’t bring you any joy. Don’t make the same mistakes all of us make chasing joys because others are chasing them. Find your own meaning to this eternal growth.

Rant. Chappri Interns and mid af SDEs on LinkedIn have destroyed the entire point of the platform. Every Tier 1 graduate working at Microsoft or Walmart posts their own pic in some Manali hillstation and give 400 lines of unsolicited gyaan, which virgin btech 2nd year students cant help but drool at. I get it bro/sis, you mugged up 800 LC mediums and Microsoft came to your BITS campus and picked you up because you solved a system design question in the interview which scales infinitely for infinite users. No, i dont want to enroll is PrepCracker's System Design Cohort for just Rs 69,999 and replace Hotstar's CTO. Folks like Arpit Bhayani and Addy Osmani are the only reason I open linkedin to actually get some ground level reality of how to be a better SWE, but all i see is bhaiyya didi telling me why my resume is not getting selected because i didnt pay Rs. 1,999 for their Topmate Resume Review session. Due to them Twitter is full of 2nd year dimwits who think swe is the only path to liberation and their bhaiyya didi will be their guiding angel. They won't. They'll turn out just like your average 3.5lpa employee at WITCH. The only way to become a good swe is figure shit out yourself and do what you love. Its that simple. Im from a shit tier 3 college. I've cracked FAANG and that too with 42 lc solved. What DSA bro? Thankyou to the Grapevine team for building a good platform where genuine watercooler discussions take place. Deleted LinkedIn for good until i get my sanity back.

I have read a few articles about it and got mixed responses from the internet. Some are saying generalists have the upper hand in this rapidly changing environment & for some specialists will be the top earners. What's your take on this Grapevine family? It's important because some people like me get bored easily with monotonous work. Constantly indulging in multiple domains of work keeps us going.

When did we stop living? What are we chasing? Why did we make living so complex? Life used to be so simple. Why are so tensed and worried all the time? When will all this end ?
