Every rupee out of three but truth is 50:50:

I still can’t comprehend the tax system in India. We pay almost 30-33% tax to govt n pay gst of 10-18% on every product that we buy n not to forget exercise duty on petrol/ diesel. What do we get back in return? Health insurance nope! Free education nope! Not even decent interest rates on loans and any political party is just an other party which loots people in the name of democracy.

My neighbour is a fruit vendor who holds multiple stalls but never heard him paying tax. Whats the way forward as no political party pays heed and only handful pays the tax.

We pay first world tax rates to get third world benefits and a second class citizen treatment

Only 7 cr people pay taxes out of 140cr and 4cr out of that pay a 0 tax rate.

Tax the farmers, landlords and paw bhaji walas making 20l per yr

Ser, everyone still pays indirect tax on every purchase right from parle g to sunflower oil to property purchase

That is a miniscule amount isn't it?

When only 2-3% people are actually paying taxes (mostly middle income groups) it feels like we're the only fools in the country.

Yeah, being white collared is just crazy. It's a sad day when I file my taxes

My friend is an interior designer, not too high end but still makes more than me despite me having a 50L+ pa ctc. She just does all her dealings in cash and files taxes in the lowest income bracket

ZippyMochi

She's taking on a lot of risk as well by dealing in cash

We service sector slaves are running the country basically.
These assholes with huge Bungalows list themselves as homeless.
Also love the fact that ITD fucks us over some discrepancies in tax return but doesn't bat an eye over these business owners.

Recently they have started sending noticed for 10 yr old ITRs. I am worried about 3 yr old ITR for which they had sent a notice once but I duly ignored it. The notice was for a discrepancy of missing out mentioning FD interests, I just slept over the notice…

What is stopping you from paying tax which is due from you. Now it is online, pay the outstanding demand if you had not shown the interest earlier.

India really should move more towards indirect taxes(consumption driven) more and gradually eliminate income tax. Income tax should only be for HNIs.

ZoomyPotato
ZoomyPotato

That eliminates the need for constantly monitoring people for taxes to a great extent.

Right now we have both. High indirect taxation and high income taxes

@Elon_Musk couldn’t understand the zero tax rate?

SqueakyKoala

He means people that filed tax returns but their taxable income is 0. So they don't have to pay any tax. Eg if your salary is below 6 lac

0 effective tax rates basically after deductions there total tax comes out to 0.

SillyBiscuit

I used to crib about the same until I realised that market pay automatically adjusts to compensate for tax rates. If taxes were lower or the government was providing healthcare/education salaries would have been much lesser. Just Compare the salaries of Europe vs that in USA and see the difference for yourself.

As for what you get all the rail, roadways, military budget, airports and a lot of other public infra is built using the money.

Obviously things can always be better and there a lot of leakages especially in businesses in unorganised sector, and my blood also boils looking at those but not much one can do about.it.

Agreed. People take so much for granted. It's not the best but it could be much worse too.

Complaining won't help as such. I would recommend starting some form of business because then you would be taxed on whatever is left after you do your expenses on the other hand as an employee you r taxed on your income and then you do your expenses on whatever is left.

It is what it is. Either become a politician and change this or live with it or move to Dubai/SGP.

Developed countries have even higher taxation but yeah you get free stuff

Why do Indians hate India?

Whenever I read foreign media outlets, India is the new Asian Tiger that will outpace most emerging economies in growth. But Indian media and Indian people act like India is the worst place to be.
