Acknowledge that paths are not always similar but you can eventually get there by putting in the right amount of work. 
  
 Also, realize that you are not what you ‘earn’ or what you ‘work as’. Easier said than done for sure. My friend once told me when somebody asks him what do you do, he replies back saying ‘I am a father of a three year old kid. I play sports during my free time. Oh, also I work at xxx’ rather than just saying ‘I work as xx at yy’. That changed my entire perspective and I keep going back to that conversation

 Neither i had ego back then nor have a pity feeling for myself or them 
 Life long these things ll happening.  
 And dont have these thoughts especially for friends and close one's.

Before you applied to this company, did you check what’s the market salary they were offering to your kind a role ? If not, that’s the first thing you should stop feeling bad about.  
  
 Secondly, even I was in a similar situation like yours, but what I did was upskilled myself and spoke to my manager to increase my salary, and my manager helped me out. There are times when your manager won’t help and you know exactly what to do :)  
  
 Third, why are you unhappy with your current salary? Is it only because your friend is getting more than you or now do you feel that your market value should have been 32 and you were given less and fooled into. Think about all these pointers and then apply whichever applicable mate.

Hi,

I came across few friends and also one person who used to report directly to me that they got 24 LPA offer. They have less yrs of experience then me and also knowledge.

I am getting same 24 LPA (with 1% equity). Do you guys think this should be red flag me to switch to some better paying jobs?

I have 9+ yrs of experience and working as engineering manager(Node, Python, PHP) while they are senior devs(Android, PHP,Frontend) with approx 5-6 yrs of experience.

I joined a startup in 2021 with a 6 LPA package. After about a year I learnt that one of my colleague, who had joined 3 month before me, and who's from the same batch (2021) as mine is being paid 12 LPA for the same role, even though I'm much better than him in terms of programming knowledge and development skills. Learning that killed all the motivation I had to work and now I feel cheated and deceived. How should I deal with this situation ?

I'm being paid 50% of colleague for the same role.

It's slightly long - It would be great if you could guide me!

Total Experience: 7 years
Domain: Sales
Education: Tier 2 Engineering College
Current TC:  Rs. 60L + ESOPs (mentioning the compensation as it's relevant)

Throughout my life, I have been discriminated against due to not having a pedigree. I have had to work my ass off to reach where I am today.

Currently I'm at a senior position in a startup incubated by an MNC. I still face the following concerns:

1. Extreme difficulty while applying for jobs; Example: my exceptional performance in my previous organisation was not known outside and since I didn't have any "pedigree", I was considered overpaid in the job market.

2. I did join at a decent hike after an year of search and even in the new company, I don't command a lot of respect due to the lack of fancy tags like IIT/IIM/ISB/Booth/LSB/Insead,etc.

What should I do? Does an MBA make any financial sense to me at this Experience and Compensation? If yes, where should I try for an MBA?

I myself am a Software dev with more than ten years of exp. 

I mentored a bunch of folks and was active in lot pf communities. I have been noticing this trend for more than couple of years about how freshers and developers with experience of less than two three years are aggressively looking to switch companies to target 30L or 50L or whatever they are currently looking for. 
But I feel this is really bad for future in terms of career growth. I am not against looking for the best offer, but I feel people recently don’t have any priority for career growth. 

I am trying to understand their perspective. I am not jealous of any of these. Heck I prefer that they get more, so that they have to increase my pay to keep up with current trends. It’s just when people ask me for career guidance I don’t want to sound like a jerk to prioritise good work over good pay. 

Can you guys share your inputs/perspectives?

Which company were you obsessed with joining, but never could?

For me it was McKinsey 
 It was the best job out of college, status wise. 
  
 Did well in college and made it to the final shortlist. Was obsessed with it, read books and all about The Firm. 
  
 Then the interviews happened, couldn’t convert. Was a downer.  
  
 But 5 years later, doesn’t matter much. I feel life taught me better things. And my fascination of consulting jobs has changed drastically since :p

Switched to a new company some months back, they asked me my expected pay, i told them some amount which i thought was significant then recently got to know everyone is getting paid more than that ( even people with 1 YOE ) just because they asked for it while joining. Not sure how i should feel about it now. I can't even ask them directly and appraisal cycle is 8 months to go.

I had an interview with Capgemini for BA profile around 23rd February. It went amazing. Got selected for second round. They asked for details like UAN card and previous salary slips and offer letters to schedule a client interview.

It sounded weird but I provided the details because I couldn't think of any way they can misuse the information.

It's been 3 weeks and I haven't heard from them. 

Is this usual practice? Personally haven't come across such a situation before.

Currently with 3+ yrs of experience and earning around 36 LPA ( 28 fixed and 8 esops ). Getting a feeling like I am not earning enough and also I am getting a FOMO looking at my friends who are doing MS and settled in US. I want to experience it, but not sure if it’s worth it or should I look for switch to get out that fomo? It’s now or never for doing MS as I am will be getting almost 4-5 yrs experience in next few years. Also, Feeling like I am getting old for MS

I work as a software engineer (Backend) at a startup ( valued over $200m). 
Most of my revolves around designing and building applications using python based frameworks (Django, flask, fast api). 
Integrating AI models to the backend, not so exciting but yeah I do.
Also, deploying them in Google cloud and setting up the cloud infrastructure. 
Occasionally I do write load testing scripts using Gatling.
At times I feel like I'm not doing any deep tech work and I'm bored. Most of the days I have zero motivation to do anything. 

How's the life of people doing deep tech at work?
What am I missing? What should I focus on?
I wonder if I'm underpaid at times (18 lpa) (exp - 4yrs).

I got a offer where i will get the equity. Does people really make money when company get sold considering in my case if i get 1% equity.

Also how does it work? Suppose when we start valuation of the company is 1 cr so my part will be 1L. Now in the next round suppose the valuation is 10cr then does it increase my equity to 10L or it dilute my % of equity?

Suppose if the company is sold at 100cr, do i really get 1 cr? Kindly let me know how it works and really people make money or not if it get sold.

How does equity works for founding engineer?

One of my friends got an offer during campus placements with a good base pay, later his offer was postponed without clear doj, now he got another offer after 8 months of struggle with a very low salary, now he is getting calls from different startups tho they are good paying companies due to his lower pay rn they are not willing to pay much, what should be the better option he should follow ? He is very good enough in tech among all of us and he is from tier 1 college...

Suggest a best path

Got placed for a package of 14 base after my undergrad, happy for my self. But when I look and see package for my friend who are working as an associate consultant with a package of 30lpa, I feel like I deserve more. Also I feel growth, package and perks are good in consulting.

As many of you are currently working professionals, most of you can relate to the feeling, can you give me advice regarding this.

Having almost  6yrs experience with single digit salary 😭 every friend and colleague are making a killing every recruiter I speak to just offer x% over last CTC but not the amount I ask stating budget issue. 2-3 years experience asking for 30-40l and while we chose not to judge the experience and spoke to a few of them, most of them are not even worth half of the pay. 

Many are jobless since last 2-3 months and none of them are willing to take a paycut of even 5-6L and are willing to stay jobless ( probably have a ton of savings )

Market correction is necessary.

What's wrong with salaries

If you are paid less, don’t extrapolate it on others. If they are willing to wait, let them. You should keep praying for “corrections”.

I have interned for an iot based start-up for 3 months. Following the completion of the internship period I was offered a full time offer and got a chance to negotiate my salary.
CTO offered me 4.8 LPA and I could only say that my expectations are around 6LPA knowing that other developers with the same experience are getting 7LPA +. Now I am feeling bad about not negotiating well (though my expectations were also around 7LPA). The CTO said he will see what he can do, and I doubt he will give me around 5.4-5.5. Now I don't know what to do, I've blundered in negotiation. 
Any tips on what I can do? I can't change job as I am a fresher with only 3 months of intern experience.
