I work in a slowing industry (Ed-Tech!) in a generalist role (Project Management!) for half a decade now! You'd think I would be better positioned to deal with life! Heck, NO! 

This crippling feeling of insecurity or job loss always puts an extra stress on day to day life. I couldn't take any risks in terms of a house or a car or a big EMI purchase in life! 

What if I get laid off? Will this generalist role help in landing anything next? Do I need an MBA for that? Switching to any specialized roles will take extensive preparation with time being in short supply with family and kids! 

Seem to have been strangled in the startup world. Any cure for this?

P.S : Sometimes thinking : Mommy sahi bolti thi. Govt job le leni chahiye thi. :D

When looking for a new role, HRs tell me they are looking for specialized experience, or my experiences do not count as they are less than 2 years (in each company)

I like being a generalist, I have learnt much more than I think I would have in a specialist role

First time posting here looking for advice

I am a 25 YO, working in an MNC (3+ Years experience)

Now here is what I have done in my last 3 years of work 

I can code fluently in Python and have managed a team of devs to work on 2 different applications
I have extensive no-code application building experience - applications being used by over 3000+ people
I have Project Manager as a designation but have done both product and project roles over the last 3 years

So I mostly say - I can solve problems from End 2 End from finding it, understanding it and solving it  (and if required build something to solve it)I mostly work with CXO (read 25 years+ experience senior leaders in the industry) but now I don't know what's next

I am eligible for a lot of roles between - strategy, technical project management and product managers
But mostly recruiters are like - "You don't have a defined experience in one field except mostly problem solving" or I am too young for a TPM role etc.

Badly need advice to understand what's next and also where to look for the next thing

I want to quit my job and take a break. 

I Have been contemplating to do the same for almost an year but decided not to do it. So many things have happened since then

1. Layoff wave started in india
2. Got married
3. Had to move back to bangalore from hometown

Reason I want to quit is I don't feel like working , feeling bored and work doesn't interest me that much. 

I want to take a break chill for a bit but don't have guts to do the same considering market conditions ( what if I don't get a job when I am back in the market😅) 

Please give any advice on how to tackle this situation or if someone has gone through the same, would love to hear your experience. 

Also how is the product hiring currently in India? 

PS:  I do have a good runway for 4-5 months considering all expenses but I am scared to take the step

My contract was terminated last month citing restructuring.
Honestly, I saw it coming but wasn't expecting it would hit like this

I tried keeping my mind distracted, but now it has started to sink

I live with parents and they aren't saying anything (they were feeding me before and still are, no change for them)

I have had thoughts of ending all this, but do not have the courage. What if it ends halfway and I am redundant my whole life?

Credit card bills are coming through now and being 42% of my ex-salary wasn't something I was prepared for. I thought I was a sane spender.

How did you tackle being laid off?

Keep looking around, apply and eventually you're bound to get a good job I promise you. Just treat it as a numbers game. Ask your parents help with the credit card bills if you don't have enough corpus, there is no shame in that. You can give the money back to them when you're in a better position. 
  
 You're a nice person from what I know of you in this platform, you got this sis! Ending it all is not a good option for the people who care about you, and you're probably gonna look back later and smile and be glad for making it through

I am getting opportunities to do an MBA in tier 2 colleges like IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, IIM Nagpur etc
Should I consider them or should I take a drop for a Tier1 MBA or should I continue to grow workex and switch in IT domain only ?

Context:
Currently a fresher, with about a year of internship experience under my belt. Tech is my calling and I love doing this. 

But, people (family especially) have been hounding me to get an MBA degree, I've managed to convince them I need a couple of years of work experience, which is appreciated in B schools. 

But my UG is from a tier 3 private college, but it's there among the top private colleges. So my understanding/dilemma is that since my alma mater isn't there among the top, would it hinder my ascent up the ladder, since I don't have a tier 1 degree. 

Dilemma:
- It's not that I don't find an MBA degree interesting, but is it worth losing the job/interview momentum and the couple of years. 
- If you're good at your technical end, and keep going up the ladder, is it wrong to think one would acquire the people skills along the way.
- Let's say you get an MBA degree from a tier 1 B school, and want to get back in the tech industry, what are the roles one would expect and how much tech would they be involved in?

I have 8.5 years of experience. iit + iim (recent 1 year mba ). initially I worked at analytics KPOs , then I worked on my own startup. post that I worked with a b2c startup as a program manager . Worked in growth, analytics , cross functional etc etc 

Then post mba , I am again working at a startup managing a team of business analysts. 

I feel like my career is not really going anywhere. I have become a "generalist" suitable for early stage startups but I do not want to work at startups any more. 

what do I do ? How do I move into bigger companies for better stability OR find a stable suitable startup where I can become a VP (but then a VP of what ? )

Hello all,
I'm a software engineer at one of the service based companies and I graduated last yr.

 Though I always knew software engineering isn't for me, I still gave it a try hoping my perspective would change when I enter the industry. Bummer! I hate it even more

What I have realised is I don't like to code or spend all day finding a solution to an error. Not to say I don't like problem solving but I simply don't like the problem solving that is required for a great software engineer.

I have been a content writer in the past and enjoyed it. I also helped a small digital marketing agency launch a campaign for a product. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of coming up with ideas that suit the tone of the brand, writing copies and much more.

I'm thinking of switching to a marketing role or anything that aligns with what I have mentioned above.  

My question to you are:

1) Is it even possible to switch without an MBA?
2) If so, What should be my approach to applying to jobs? (Kindly tell me the specific and not just -' Make a stellar resume and apply ' kind of a vague answer)
3) What other roles can I look into?

I'm a chem engineer with MBA in Finance (Tier 2 cllg). While pursuing my MBA I had two priorities clear - 1. Dont want a sales role & 2. Don't want to join a tech company (not exactly good with tech stack). As luck would have it, I joined IBM few months ago in a sales role 🥲
Since then I have been thinking a lot about my future. I need some external advice as I am already biased against the sales role -
1. In a situation like mine, should one immediately switch profile if possible or get some experience in sales before trying to switch?
2. Is it even possible to make the switch if I spend a couple of years here?
3. How difficult it is to make the switch to finance roles (financial analyst or similar) without a CFA and solely on MBA finance? I'm prepping for CFA but will appear next year post April.
