Just be receptive to their thoughts, understand their povs.
Help them understand their role and your expectations from them clearly.
Direct manager plays a huge role in someoneβs POV about the organisation, set some biweekly or monthly one on ones to understand/tackle problems they are facing. use the same meeting to communicate your expectations from them.
One thing that is often neglected is, making sure your team members have a visibility outside your team as well. Promote a culture where in your manager also knows about your subordinates and what they are good at.
Provide them your support towards their career goals.
Finding a good balance between becoming too strict (getting work done) vs too supportive ( some lemons take advantage of this).
If you end up doing half of the above they will remember you throughout their career. I was fortunate enough to have two manager in my career like that. Both of them I still reach out for career guidance.

Don't be a jerk ,simple
If someone is underperforming, try to understand the root cause instead of throwing them under the bus
Create a positive env inside the team. A bad manager is the reason ,lot of people quit job
Give credit where it is due.
People want money,appreaction and good work- find ways to provide them at least 2 of them

Donβt be so worried about micromanaging that you end up not managing at all.
First off congratulations. It is a big responsibility
While you be receptive to your reportees needs, keep a boundary of respect. Ensure assigned work is getting done by people whom it is assigned to.
Appreciate in public, scold in private (if needed)
Judge work by genuine performance and try keeping your biases at bay (difficult but not impossible)
