Also, how are you getting such good odds for La liga? #1 team is playing against #16. You'd expect them to win 80-90% of the time. Yet you got 3:5 odds, which means a 5/8 chance of winning (62.5%).

In football, there’s 3 possible outcomes. win/draw/loss. also it was alves’s home ground these sort of situations really make the difference. It also depends on at what time of the match you’re betting.  
 Madrid scored in the 92nd minute.

I'm currently in my notice period as I didn't feel like this was the right place for me, so I quit without a plan.

Yesterday, while traveling through Uber, the driver told me about how he nearly got killed. He has two kids in Kolkata, and he's in Bangalore without the money to get his car fixed.

I don't know what got into me, but I handed over 5k bucks to him. I usually don't bet, but I placed a wager on the India vs. SA match and made 50k after betting 30k.

Last night, during a La Liga match, I went again and went yolo on Real. Despite them getting a red card and scoring in the 92nd minute, it was an absolute miracle.
Making me another 30k

I think it is God paying it forward :)

I have saved up close to a lac from my Internships, will be starting FT soon. I was thinking of YOLOing my entire savings by buying Zomato shares.

I really believe the company will grow multifolds in the future, also I won’t have qualms if they don’t do well and I end up losing my money.

I feel it’s better to take a bet on this as the money isn’t really significant and is better used if Invested somewhere. I might just end up wasting it buying AJ1s, Airpods and all that expensive stuff.

What do you guys think about this? What’s your view on Zomato’s future?

PS- No Index funds, MF advices pls. I’ve done enough research and will Invest once I start getting monthly salary from my FT Job.

Few days ago, I created a post on explaining “alpha” & “beta” of MFs. Yesterday’s correction gave me a chance to visualise the impact on real money. 

From the beginning of this year, I wanted to play in small/mid cap frenzy and used flexicaps to save myself from research efforts & downside.

With 1.5% nifty fall, downside protected PPFCF went down only by 1.6%. I kept quant (minority) to play with alpha of folio. Overall, learning here is within MFs you can have multiple MFs (with min overlap) within same category basis the investment styles of fund houses. 

We may go 25,000 but easy money days are over. Play safe.

What the post says. Albeit my sincere condolences to those laid off! The ruling is really unfortunate for many who joined the Real Money gaming space in india but this was also inevitable. I know people who have tried to get out of the Indian RMG space because they didn’t like the ethics of it or saw it’s impending doom, with all the uncertainty around the legality.

The reason I’m for it is because it ruined the beginnings of the Indian gaming industry. Indian gaming companies only focused on learning the skills to build stronger hardcore gambling games. Some companies had the opportunity to diversify into using the money to make mistakes and learn to make great games. Maybe hire outside talent to learn better and bring the disciple of Game Design to India. But the majority have failed to do so. I hope this delivers significant pressure to the few that survive to try harder at understanding the gaming landscape and attempt to make games they themselves would play. (The majority of game teams in in Indian gaming companies, do not play / enjoy their own game - Read “Don’t eat their own dog food” cliche)

Right now, the Indian gaming ecosystem is like if Hollywood was run by product managers instead of good writers. They just study what “works” and do more of that, missing the point of artistic exploration and concepts of novelty, story-telling and fun. (That is happening in a way, given the direction of constant re-boots of old movies - lead by a very Product MBA mindset with only 2-3 orders of thinking) - incapable of deconstructing “fun” itself (even though some people claim to be able to))

A bit of a jumble of thoughts but just wanted to get that thought out.

Confession Bear : India Gov killed Real Money Gaming and I’m for it

Here's how I modelled my data:
1. Got statistics of the entire Pak and Ind squads with their last 5 performances.
2. Got statistics of Last 3 games at Nassau County Stadium.
3. Got betting odds for all of these matches.

Used a very simple XGBoost model to get the implied odds for betting odds and compared it to the actual odds.
Model did well on Test and Validation set using K-Fold Cross Validation.

Compared the predicted odds and actual betting odds, figured there is some positive E(V) here.
So made two bets of 10k each. Made 8k in 1 match.

Unemotional after winning and unemotional even after loss.

Made Rs. 8000 using Machine Learning models in 1 day...

I asked ChatGPT what this means:

Firstly, this individual gathered a lot of data, including statistics about the players in the Pakistan and India cricket teams, their recent performances, data specific to the Nassau County Stadium for the last three games, and also the odds that bookmakers were offering for these matches.

They then used a machine learning technique called XGBoost to analyze this data. XGBoost essentially helps predict outcomes based on given data. In this case, it was used to predict the implied odds for the matches based on the statistics gathered.

To make sure their predictions were reliable, they tested their model on separate sets of data (Test and Validation sets) using a technique called K-Fold Cross Validation. This helps ensure that the model performs consistently well across different datasets and doesn't just work well by chance.

After comparing their model's predictions with the actual betting odds, they found that there was a positive expected value (E[V]). This means that, on average, their model was predicting odds that were better than what the bookmakers were offering.

Feeling confident in their model, they made two bets of 10k each. In one match, they made a profit of 8k.

What's impressive here is that this approach seems to have paid off, indicating that with the right analysis and data, it's possible to make informed betting decisions. Additionally, the individual remained unemotional both when they won and when they lost, which is crucial in maintaining a rational approach to betting.

What's the craziest way you've made money ?

At start of 2020 was transitioning to a new job. Got FnF of 1.3L from prev. job in March of that year.  
  
 Unwittingly YOLOed all of it into crypto (ETH, MATIC, UNI). Over the next year it grew to ~85L. Withdrew all, paid taxes and put the lumpsum ~50L in mutual funds and FDs on dad's advice. Not gonna get lucky like that ever again.

India is winning for sure. Hard for Pakistan to pull a winner today. It is done and dusted. Wish me luck. Diamond hands 💎💎💎🙌
