Absolutely right! It depends on your own degree of tolerance. I tried uninstalling this app for a few months early this year, mental health felt a bit good, but I was missing the gossips and Swiggy layoff stories, so shamelessly joined back.

Peanuts rants are still fine, but reading net worth in crores while earning peanuts is harmful for health.  
 Now I have learned to avoid them and just focus on dopamine gossip 🤭🤭

Appreciate that this anonymous platform offers a safe space for people to let off some steam, but increasingly, starting to feel that regular exposure to such toxic levels of negativity is much worse off for mental health.

I feel that when you open up to people about your traumas and insecurities, people are only going to use it against you in an arguement.

While you might argue that not everyone does that, and I would be the first one to agree to that. But you somehow stop trusting everyone, even your shadow , when your favorite people become your most bitter life lessons. 

The one who feels emotions always ends up suffering more. In the hindsight, it feels as if being a bare minimum "good human" is a curse. 

However,

I have been using grapevine to vent out and connect with strangers and so far I have only met supportive and empathetic human beings (most of them). 

Despite being covered in the sheild of anonymity, most people have only been respectful and kind. 

This proves that we, as humans , are only meant to love each other. Hatred is futile. Empathy is inherent while hatred is "cultivated".

I hope grapevine founders dont stumble across this post else theyll start charging premium fees when they realize how highly people speak of this platform lol

I really liked the concept. It has best of both worlds. Easiest way to create content is audio, and consume is text.

However, I think it will suffer because it might not promote controversial stuff or negative comments.

Humans have a negativity bias. Name-calling, insults or blind hate, are things that no one likes - but also things that no one can look away from. And those engaged in it can't easily pull away. 

One of the reasons why Grapevine is so good because in an anonymous forum, people might be less likely to step in and stop negative behavior. People either promote propaganda of one company or to spread shit about other companies.


Even X is infamous for rewarding conflict. Most negative comments come from anon folks. elafda get the best engagement.  


The audio first social media app Airchat has a second order effect that people can write way more mean shit than say it aloud. Plus it's not natively anon. 

I really wish it does work, in a world where there's so much negativity, we need airchat to thrive.

Seeing the salary discussion happening among unicorn and top tier tech co. employees, i must confess I get anxiety everytime I check into this app.

Like wtf. Am in this co. happily slogging for last 5 yrs getting 18LPA  even though I have total experience of 12 yrs working in Privacy and compliance solutioning team.

I've been observing a concerning trend lately on this platform, and I believe it's high time we rethink the way we treat startup founders. Take a moment to consider the dedication and courage it takes to leave a secure job and venture into the world of entrepreneurship. 

I feel Companies like Dukaan, AppX etc were unnecessarily mocked here based on one side of opinion,
I've had the privilege of working closely with a startup's CTO for the past two years, and it's been an eye-opening experience. Startups are like fragile ecosystems where every member plays a crucial role. However, what I've noticed is that sometimes employees who find it challenging to keep up with the dynamic startup environment tend to cast blame on the founders and the company culture.

Let's remember, every startup is a journey of learning, growth, and innovation. Founders make mistakes, learn from them, and strive to create something meaningful. They invest their time, energy, and resources into building something from scratch. Instead of mocking them, we should applaud their courage and determination.
But, what's even more disheartening is the toxic behavior exhibited by some employees here on Grapevine. It's disheartening to see individuals intentionally targeting someone's reputation due to personal grudges. Instead of resorting to negativity, let's try to understand the challenges startup founders face. Put yourself in their shoes; empathize with the pressure, uncertainty, and sleepless nights they endure to bring their visions to life.

We should strive to be a community that supports and uplifts one another, especially those who are trying to make a difference in the business world. Let's promote constructive criticism and empathy, recognizing that we all have our unique journeys, struggles, and successes.

Id love to see Grapevine create a catalogue of Grapevine approved verified anonymous accounts of detailed employee accounts of how good or terrible a company is. Think The Ken but filled with employee reports. But the style of writing leaning on the casual office gossip side. And the content saved in an archive and searchable. The biggest problem of course would be getting people to verify their identity to a Grapevine mod or writer may be tough.
Me personally, I’d love to talk to some writer about my experience at my previous businesses. So many scoops and insane stories!

It’s therapeutic because you can share different aspects of your life that you can’t talk about on other platforms. For instance, you can't criticize the Ola CEO on LinkedIn, demand justice for the Kolkata rape case on Twitter without getting a notice from the Kolkata police, or express unhappiness on Instagram because that’s not the vibe of that platform. But on Grapevine, you can do all of this and more.

Funny enough, I’ve been able to analyze different aspects of my personality (and all my different personalities). My brain works a lot, I talk a lot, and I think a lot. Over the past year, I've realized I see things very differently than how society, media, or authorities expect me to. Grapevine has been a tool for understanding myself better. I can share a thought, and maybe 15 people will respond—some agreeing, some disagreeing, and a few might even call me names. But that’s okay, that’s just how they function. All part of self-discovery.

Another thing I appreciate about Grapevine is that it removes the halo effect we often have. Our names, colleges, and companies are masked (some who haven't revealed them), reducing the blurring of judgments. We connect with people on a more human-to-human level.

Grapevine is great if you're looking to find a partner, lover, or simply make new friends and expand your network. You can be yourself, and the people who know you here often know you better than those you meet at college, work, or even within your family.

To me, it’s all about access. 
Access to authentic ideas.

The best search result you get on Google is high SEO but low authenticity. On LinkedIn, there are so many people but everyone is shilling a course or 1:1 resume reviews. 

Mostly it has become a place which started as vanity signalling

( I have started a new role…, I have been accepted at …, I have received offers from F, A, N and G and I’m joining G.)  

And now people pushing mindless content with “Agree?” or “Comment Interested”.

Somehow, everyone is truly inauthentic to please a wider audience and say the exact same generic gyaan to maximise engagement.

For now, Grapevine is where people are genuinely themselves and I get to hear interesting things that you get to hear near the coffee machine.

Kinda feels like we’re all a big community where we all contribute and learn new things about the professional landscape around us.
