Well newbie recruiter. Did you give them this feedback on call? Also some orgs essentially do have return to work programs so that people are at ease.

1. Handling 500 applications a day, you can't provide individual feedbacks 
 2. Companies which are hiring for return to work, also look for skills.

But if your answers are about this, rather than the skills I am hiring for, how do I make a judgement if you can do the job?

I think bit of it stems from them feeling left out, guilty of taking a break. Why can't they view it as a challenging phase of life and focus on their individuality.

Easier said than done, but sincerely HR who doesn't know if I can hire you

Am I the asshole?

After a few months clear to me an employee was taking company for a ride. Average a few days a week in the office, otherwise sick/on errands, delivered no work. CTC 55L.

Before I could fire her, she announced she was taking Maternity leave a few months into the job. Well crap guess I need to pay her for 6 more months more because of laws I don't understand. Rip my bank account.

She returns, same issues. I put her on a pip & she resigned telling me I'm sexist and it will be hard to find a new job now. I say sorry, performance was bad, she can do pip and stay if things are better. She askes for 2 months salary and i agree.

A lawyer calls telling me I need to pay more or they will file a case. Said I discriminated to her, and it's not legal.

I think this person is a bully/psycho/self entitled. But am I the asshole?

AITAH? Fired a lady after maternity.

Thats how things play.  
 Sometimes things are genuine sometimes u come across opportunists. You can never fully get to know what is the actual situation. 
  
 She might have genuine problems but if the conduct aint good, to hell with it.  
 She might be faking it to retrieve more money,

I met one of my college friends yesterday at a bar. She got married last year and was laying down the struggle of finding a new job. 

Now, apparently in many interviews when she reached the final few rounds, the HR or the Hiring Manager enquires about marital status and whether she has any children. 

When she mentions that she recently got married and that she does not have any kids, the company stops responding to her. 

She elaborated that although they might have found another fit for the role but she is a T-1 grad who did her Masters from an Ivy League college and has worked for 4-5 years in both NA+EMEA and India.

It is becoming more apparent to her that, HRs and Hiring Managers have a strong bias because they are definitely presuming that since she recently got married and will likely have a child soon, that she will use up her maternity privileges leading to significant productivity drop. Meaning, that the company will likely have to hire someone else to make up for productivity loss.

She does not plan to have kids for another 3-4 years but getting married is proving really hard for her. 
Especially in the Series B+ startups that she is applying to.

All these issues root from this being an employer market. We won’t see this as much in good times.

During the townhall at our office, I couldn’t resist but count the number of women that are actually present in tech! And guess the number? Out of around 100-150 people I could count only 9 women! (Including myself)
And as I was thinking around it, time came for my 1 on 1 review and I for a fact believe that I’ve been working good and so did my manager, he started with all the wonderful things I did and the improvements were great from our last 1 on 1 but the review ended with much of a confusion, it felt like I was told I’m a women in this industry! 
My manager added how this industry is biased and how if a women does something wonderful she’s not a normal girl! He rather added that how life will get difficult for me from now on since I’m married and might plan a family! 
Are men also told the same thing? They will plan a family too right? 
It felt like i was not treated equally like my other teammates and a bit differently because I am a woman? 
Have you ever given a thought about how it happened with you and around you?

How many women are in your office?

I'm part of the founding team of a fintech startup. Our marketing manager heads a team of five. She's getting married next month and is super excited with the whole hoopla. Date outings, relatives, puja, invitations, festivals—it's just too much energy being redirected. 
We're happy for her, too. But now it's becoming a productivity issue at work. Things are delayed, nothing is on deadline, subpar work is getting published, and the numbers have dipped.

She was hired because she's good at her work, but this is getting her distracted from what she's good at. 
And it probably won't stop after getting married. She'll be even more taken up with a new house and responsibilities.

Ofcourse, I've spoken to her about this, and the response is the usual: "I'll do better, I'm trying, I'm aware of the delays."

Look, as a female, I'm all for women's empowerment. But if you get sidelined in your efforts, someone else will get this job.
She's good; I don't want to let her go. What do I do here?

Job hunt post pregnancy

I became a new father like a week ago and I work in hardware. It’s already very hectic and has low reward mechanisms. Within next week I will have to leave my baby & wife in the hometown with better care and attention to earn my living in the city. Its not like my org is forcing me & is calling me, in-fact they are nicest I have seen but wish ke thoda time aur hota with zero regrets.
