Am I the only one who finds it disgusting ?? And I really wonder how they are okay with such a small sample size to even start.
It's a VC role. It's not about hiring the smartest guy. It's hiring the guy who looks the smartest ...on paper. Just like all VC things...

Exactly..... When I send a eam to meet an investor to raise funds, looking smart is more important that being smart.
Infact, the more these people have preferred graduates for certain roles it's better for T2 grad. It's gives us more job opportunities.
Surprised they didnt ask for knighthood awarded by queen of england and a summa cum laude from hogwarts

Okay, now that expected reaction is out of the way, let's try to understand why someone might have such a requirement:
VCs, especially early ones, work on sourcing. A person who has IIT-IIM tag, has access to both the networks - IIT Network and IIM Network. That gives you access to new founders, some of whom will make billion dollar companies. Will you get access to all such founders? No. Will all unicorn founders have these creds? No. But do VCs believe that several "good" founders have these creds? You bet. There are funds like IvyCap, who just back IIT/BITS founders.
So, it's not a leap of faith that a VC would have this as a requirement.

They are selling the guys credentials more than what the person can do today.
It’s a culture thing in a lot of places. Say you have a firm that’s only hired under 500 JEE folks for 5 years - would you really want to hire outside of it if things have been going great for you? There’s a familiarity and expectation on the level people operate at if there’s a common marker to judge against across the years.
This exists in an unwritten and unspoken manner in lots of places, in this case the person just put it out there in writing - saving the recruiters, the candidates, and the hiring team time and effort.
For recruiters, this helps them with filtration(but do agree that some really good candidates will be missed out). But this is how it works out.
Recruitment is a tough function. Until, something which solves recruitment at the core isn’t developed, this will continue happening.
