How do people continue in a company for 5+ years?
I don't understand people who have been with one organisation for 10, 15, 20 years. I can't even think beyond 3 years and that's a stretch too.

Once you start earning big money, changing jobs doesn't sound logical for a few extra lakhs.
Also with marriage and kids and some needs like bank balance, cars, house, People tend to lose the need to switch for a higher pay and enjoy being in comfort zone.
But my question is with the comfort zone. I understand not wanting to move for a few extra lacs, but I inevitably become uncomfortable after 3 years... not sure if I'm choosing the right companies now

If your employer is not an industry/sector leader (and if you're smart enough) you will most likely see through a lot of bs in most companies. Even the major ones have a lot of shit going on but it doesn't matter as long as the job is secure and growth is happening.
Really depends on what you want from your employer. And if you can't see yourself working for anyone long term, you might want to consider freelance/startup founder life.
It's something else to be able to work on your own terms, albeit more difficult.

If you're from the average middle class, your risk taking abilities start going down after you have a family and responsibilities coming in over a period of time. You're by then used to your workplace and a master in handling the politics and number games at ease because you know the internal dynamics pretty well. If you had joined a company in its early stages then you're probably sitting on a huge equity as well, along with the organisation paying you a good salary.
I've seen many people moving out from an organisation after spending 10+ years and then coming back to the same place just because they didn't like their new job/place. As people age they don't wanna take up new BS and drama from elsewhere.
Early in your career you seek aggressive growth switching jobs. But over a period of time we all saturate. Few folks feel saturated very early in their life too. Sustainable growth is heavily underrated these days.
You canāt imagine bcoz youāre getting the opportunity to switch that frequently now and also itās monetarily alluring. Once this stops, youāll start imagining how to secure ur position in ur current company

long term has its benefits. at some point in your timeline the number of years will help to leapfrog the promotions and career growth that was missed. But mostly i think it is the non chalant attitude creeps in after a few years of work exp.
What if they really like the company and the role, and it gives good growth as well?

Roti, kapda, makan, ghadi aur bank balances ke Baad you start losing motivation. Simple Maslow law.
Diminishing returns.
Initial year switches mean doubling your salary, later on the hikes dont add up much.
You hit a plateau in lifestyle upgrades and to breach that is not possible with switch hikes.
Walmart all hands routinely introduced people celebrating their 35 years work anniversary in US... We had one for 40 years once
