How do you feel about a fully transparent salary system?

By making salaries transparent you’ll end up signalling who gets paid for what skills, and how you can reach similar levels if you manage to put in hours/ up-skill yourself? This should reduce the number of employees who’ll be unhappy if they find someone else’s salary later on to be really high. Also, we will get rid of draconian law, which kind of stops employees from talking about salaries. Does any company in India have salary transparency as one of the their core agenda to attract talented folks?

Should salaries of all employees in private companies be made transparent, similar to government structures with fixed brackets? Is it legitimate to expect this level of transparency? Transparency could also foster employee trust, discourage discrimination, and promote equitable compensation practices.

Do you discuss it openly? Or is it the same old "it's confidential, don't discuss the salary with anyone"?

Had the first (exploration) call with my would-be boss and HR lead to figure out which role I would fit in. Company is an MNC startup, best culture ive heard of, lots of friends working there in different verticals etc. I usually dont reveal salary this early on but it was a very quick call and they asked about it and I felt like I had to this time to not come off as a snob or stuck up. Chances are low and I am okay pushing back but Im paranoid about getting lowballed now. Any advice on how to better my chances in the upcoming rounds? Greatly appreciate any help
