How is every person here / on reddit earning 1-1.5lpm as a fresher? Have the entry level salaries increased ?

Genuinely curious! Like I graduated about 4 years ago from an NIT and started with 40k pm for an analytics role, now everyone I see is earning atleast 12lpa after tax?

Real average salaries are more likely still 5LPA, Just the number for 1L monthly folks have increased like 2017batch 10/200 would get that, 2022batch 40/200 kids getting that. so bunch of lucky people are here, should be seen as outliers.

Broad minimum ranges start is still similar ~20k at agencies in t2,
~30k at WITCH, ~50k at poor startups, ~100k at rich startups/big tech

@tbk how would these ranges look for people with 4 yoe

Yes, the fresher bunch with 1 lpm would be louder than the ones getting 40-50k, I mean there is nothing to announce in the later.

People should remember these are outlier cases and not the normal ones when going through grapevine/fishbowl.

I graduated last year and i had a package of around 11 lpa off campus. But in my whole class, only a handful of people had such packages. I'd say around 5-6( all got these packages in campus placement). Rest all (50-60) had the 4-5lpa packages. I think a lot of high salaried freshers are active so we see their salary but in reality such salaries are not common. 4-5 lpa is common from what i have seen. Btw I'm from T 3 college.

And how about your T2 or T1 acquaintances?

I have a T1 friend and he got around 25 lpa and another one got 14lpa. They said many of their classmates got around 20. Not sure about the avg. But since it's iit, we'd expect nothing less ig

Ex IITian here, so I can add the viewpoint of T1 colleges. My thoughts on this are that the highly paid ones are usually the ones who seek platforms to brag/seek validation and hence there is a huge influx of such people on grapevine, fishbowl, even quora etc. But coming to the main point, the salaries have increased since 2017-2022 ( broad 5 year range) the companies which used to offer 12 started giving 16, the ones giving 16 started giving 20+ etc. Also the number of tech companies in India has increased. In short there are a lot of startups in India right now with huge amounts of VC funds so that's directly correlated here.
Also a reality check even in tier 1 colleges, for ex in my college (old IIT), for non circuital branches placements are at an average of 10-15 lpa CTC (not in hand). The 20+ and 30+ lpas are very few and far between in non circuital branches.

20+ in tier 1 non circuital wasn't uncommon for last year's placements. It's probably those people posting about their salaries.

The thing is, most people who work in big tech eventually end up on such platforms, maybe searching for more knowledge info news etc. (personal view) and thus you end up seeing a lot if these inflated salaries.

I graduated this year from a t3 college, secured a faang offer, and currently make more than what you mentioned. But this isn't the scene with all if my friends. Most of them are working at mncs making 6-8lpa, and only a very few of my buddies (4-5) made it to big tech/startups/intll offers making similiar to what you mentioned.

On the other hand, my friends from t1 colleges, got placed at flipkart, slice, amex, etc. You get the point, and all are making crazy monies.

Like i said in my first point, mostly people making fat paychecks end up lurking and seeking validation on such platforms. Others, maybe not so much, or maybe aren't so vocal about their pay, thus less visibility.

Yes, salaries have increased in the last 4-5 years for freshers but not by that much. There are multiple factors in play:

  1. Most of the folks in this platform are in SWE, hence higher packages for freshers.
  2. Naturally, ones with higher packages are most active on most of the platforms.

Lastly, salaries have not increased that much in the Analytics domain. Being from the same domain , i can understand your pain!
