Just a question related to claiming HRA,What is the best practice of claiming maximum HRA,for example if basic salary is 100000,then company pay HRA as 50k,which is almost very difficult to claim. How are people.claiming that legally.Thanks

Seems like since last year the focus of government has shifted from actually making beneficial policies to enable innovation and growth of India to just collecting taxes blindly. 

They just want to harvest tax in as many ways possible and kill the middle class person.

First it was crypto. 

Then us salaried individuals started receiving notices. 

Then they levied 28% GST on online gaming. 

Now they are also checking proofs for HRA allowance and other stupid stuff which wasn't done before. 

I was wondering why there is a sudden increase in such incidents? Is the government hiding something? Are they running out of money?

Or are they just smoking weed just like us and making stupid rules?

This government’s primary intention is to collect more and more taxes in whatever mean’s possible. They don’t give a f**k about anything. And then will brag every month/quarter about record GST collection! This government is pathetic to say the least! No accountability and arrogance is at its peak. We have come to a point where we can’t even question the government otherwise you will be termed as anti national.

My PG rent is 11x the amount, but the HRA allotted to me from the company side is 17x, if I show 17x in papers, would it cause any trouble to the PG owner, I heard they would get notice. Is it okay to do so, please help here.

I recently started my job(2023 grad), a lot of senior folks at my firm are (indirectly) stating that they fake hra. Is it safe? Should I also consider doing it? Let's say I live in city A and my parent live in city B can I give my parents id as landlord?

So like many/some of us, I claimed HRA more than actually paid quoting my landlord pan. Now when he was filing ITR, his CA found this out, probably through AIS. He asked me to get it fixed and vacate. Question:

1. Has anyone else faced it?
2. What would be the best solution? My CA suggested to request the landlord to accept that extra income on ITR and pay tax. I will offer her to pay the difference, Reason being that if he rejects, it will eventually come to me as IT notice and then I would need to provide evidence which I won’t have for inflated amount .

How do I find a CA? I tried searching grapevine but could not find any relevant post where how we can find one is mentioned..

Is it beneficial to hire a CA for salary upwards of 30LPA?
Like, can they help me save more tax than the usual 80C/NPS/Medical Insurance savings, I seem to have already maxed them out.
Also if we opt for new tax regime, can CA help in saving additional money?

Hi, while submitting HRA proofs, I forgot to attach the previous rent agreement which covered the first 5 months of the year. As a result, the team has come back and only approved hra claim for the period covered in the current agreement. They are saying there is no way for us to reupload additional proofs (previous agreement) for company-level hra processing, and that we should claim these remaining hra savings while filing taxes. Has anyone done so before? What is the process? Please advise, thank you.

I just started my first full time job and will be filing ITR for 1st time next year, no one in my family has been in high tax slab previously so not much experience from there :D

Some questions:

- Almost 50% of my base pay is getting used in paying EMIs (Mostly mortgage) of my family, nothing is on my name, all on father's name, is there a way to claim this in deduction ?

- We have our own house in a tier 3 city and I'm getting 30k/month as HRA, what will be safe HRA amount to claim ?

- Can we claim any other expenses in deduction ? Leave travel allowance seems useless to me as I'm working remotely.

- Which tax regime do you prefer ? New or old ?

I could have done investments to save taxes but nothing is left after all the expenses and nothing on my name 😛

One of my uncles (50 years old) has to pay Rs 37K tax every year, he is the sole earner in his family, he is a very simple and honest middle class man trying to provide for his family, is there any way that he can save that tax? They live paycheck to paycheck, As the tax amount is a lot for him, pls help with what can be done? I’ve seen people who earn hell lot more paying 0 taxes, pls help

Hi people, tax season is here, I need help with HRA rules.

Hi , I need your help in understanding HRA for tax calculations. 

As per old regime, HRA is calculated as minimum of:
a. Actual HRA received 
b. 50% or 40 % of basic 
C. Actual rent paid -10% of basic

My question is why isn't complete rent paid annually is not considered as tax exempted regardless of any clauses? The entire rent I pay is an outgo for me and income for the landlord. If I calculate using above 3 conditions , my exempted tax amount will always be lesser than the actual rent I paid in a year. So why total annual rent paid is not considered exempted? 

It's like I am paying 100rs for something but getting tax benefit only on 70rs. Is there something that I can do about it?
