How much equity should i ask in a seed funded company as one of the founding engineers?

10% minimum, ideally more. Negotiate well.

Funding doesn't mean shit. Founding engineers are the ones who will bring real value to a hypothetically lucrative company.
I'm a founder too and anything less than 5% for founding team engineer sounds criminal to me.

They offered options of ranging from .4 to .6 .
Fixed pay varies inversely. I am still thinking about it though

0.2%~0.5% based on seniority
0.5% to 1% if you have an experience of leading a team of engineers and handling engineering at a scale of 100k dollars in revenue

Are you taking a pay cut to join here? If you are paid near market, then up to founder discretion. Cause frankly, unless you bring some niche, non replaceable skills to the table.
Normally anything in the 0.1 - 0.25% would be par.
My 2 cents.
