How to switch to a Senior Backend Engineering role?
I'm currently working as a Frontend Engineer at leading FinTech in India. I'm doing great in my current role(IMO). I also contribute to open source libraries on weekends. Maybe it is FOMO or my learning curve being relatively flat, recently I'm feeling I don't want to type cast myself as a frontend engineer and explore backend as well. I might get promoted to senior role this appraisal cycle. My current org (specifically my managers) don't want me to contribute in backend services as there are already plenty devs in backend. How to go about this? I can't switch since, no company would hire a folk as a senior backend developer with 0 backend experience.

It may sound weird but try good consulting firms. ie thoughtworks. Get in and search for backend opportunities. These companies are more flexible about the roles as long as you prove them you’re suitable for the position.
Thanks for your advice. Completely makes sense as the projects there get over soon.

I'm stuck in a similar situation. Working in a seed stage startup mostly as a mobile engineer but I wish to move into backend roles. My CTO doesn't let me contribute to backend repositories and I'm unsure how to switch.
Had a talk with few folks I consider mentors. They also told if you feel your learning curve has flattened then try to learn something new.
But by that time make sure you know everything in depth around your current role
