How valuable is an online MBA, would be nice if you can give a rough comparison with a full time MBA.
How valuable is an online MBA from an institution like NMIMS in comparison with a full time MBA. In terms of value, exposure, financial returns etc.
MBA is a tool to open doors, it's an expensive networking exercise masquerading as a degree. If you're not doing it full time, live and with actual people who can form relationships, friendships, mentorships with you, an MBA is pretty much useless.
If it's the management education or knowledge you seek, go pick a good reading list of the courses taught and work on them yourself. You don't need to burn a hole in your pocket.
As yourself why you need an MBA. And where you're getting it, would that justify the cost of whole exercise + opportunity cost of not working for duration + any other benefit.
If you want to be PM, become one. You don't need an MBA. A bunch of online reading and building side projects + real world experience should be enough.
If you really want MBA to change your trajectory. This would be the order of value:
1. Full time MBA - top 10 institution.
2. Executive MBA full time - top 10.
3. Part time + live on campus - top 10.
4. Full time MBA - no-name institution.
5. Executive/part time MBA - no-name.
6. Online MBA - video courses + tests.
If you don't get 1,2 or 3, just skip it.
Thank you for your response. Just wanted to know if there's pay parity between an MBA pm vs non MBA pm.
An MBA from top 10 school will earn far more than one without. But an MBA from no name school will be on same level as non-MBA.
MBA from top 10 school would also have spent more money towards it.
There is no context as to where you stand in your career, YOE, eventual career goal etc. A rough comparison should yield a strong No.
Hi, i have about 3 yrs of experience and am looking for an MBA to probably transition into PM roles (currently a consultant in a tech company assisting implementation of legal software and I am a lawyer by education).
For PM roles, I am not sure if MBA is necessary but it’s good to have. Online MBAs won’t help you cut into the good companies.
Your implementation + Legal makes a good MBA profile. I can already think of your probable interview answers. Would really recommend to do a full time course.

Not sure if online MBAs are worth it. And if they lead to better outcomes. What are your goals?
I want to transition into the PM role along with getting a decent hike.
Personally wouldn’t advocate for it unless you want to have an MBA just for the sake of it.

It depends based on which institution you pursue it.
- Go for an Executive MBA over an online MBA.
- Go for an Executive MBA over tier 3 & 4 MBA colleges.
- Go for an Online MBA over tier 3 & 4 MBA colleges.
Go for a full-time MBA if you can make it at least in the tier 2 MBA colleges (assuming you can't get into tier 1).
Go for a full-time MBA if you can afford it (Money as well as time).
(~20L expense + 2 years without work).
To create the choice (after considering time, money & outcome).
Executive 1-year MBA > Online MBA > Full-time MBA.
I would personally never go for an "Online MBA". No one except your spouse (and relatives) will give an F about it.
Look for Professional Courses (6-8 months or even 1 year long) if your goal is to "LEARN" about product management. (ISB, IIMs, etc.)
If you have the "guda" (ready to spend money and have time) here's what I suggest:
- Masters Union.
- BITS. (not sure).
- BITSoM.
Dont have guda here's what I suggest:
- Great Learning.
- BITS (WILP).
