How's the culture and pay at Urban Company?
I recently got a call for an interview at the urban company. Want really brutally honest opinion about the following things
- culture of the company
- CTC for a category manager - would love if someone can tell the inhand salary
- work life balance
- The culture is awesome, many smart folks in the company all focused on solving problems rather than playing blame games. Young, energetic, motivated and hardworking folks you will meet. Getting slightly more corporate like as it is growing though. If you are from a good college (iit/bits/top 6iims/ivy/isb), your growth trajectory will be faster than the non pedigree folks
- There is category manager 1 and 2. For cm1 CTC would be 5lpa to 7-8lpa. Cm2 would be 8 to 13lpa
- Strong hustle culture. You are expected to work hard and play hard. Wlb is good in non season (seasonality depends on category) but very hectic (7 day working) during the season. Do let me know if you have any other specific questions
Sure, usually there are 3 rounds with focus on cultural fit + intent check and problem solving/analytical thinking. As the rounds proceed problem solving focus reduces and intent/cultural fit questions are weighed more. Be prepared for a case study/guestimate.
Problem solving/analytics - Case interviews cracked on YouTube has four ~1 hour videos which had helped me a lot. Intent check/culture fit - your motivations to leave the current company + reason to join uc. Focus on stating your learning orientation as the fundamental reason for joining (on a separate note, don't expect a significant pay hike on your current CTC, most people here join on paycuts! Around 20-25% would be your best bet) Your depth of research on the company and the quality of questions you ask help them understand both your intent + cultural fit. Do a decent amount of research about what the company does and do go through the category page of Salon on the app, I had booked a uc service for the first time before the interview to build some perspective.
Thanks for the answer here 🙏
Everything is great, but slightly fuckall pay. If you're looking for an international mba down the line, it's the best place to network. You'll do great if you're from tier -1 pedigree, otherwise you'll be buttfucked.
How will non-tier affect if they perform well?
Used to work there about 2 yrs back in Product. Loved every bit of it culture and team wise.
They are not great pay masters though
Can answer 1 & 3 as shared by a friend who worked there till 1 year back.
- Terrible
- Her team used to work first half of Sunday as well
