Last two months had been great, I was consistently building a morning routine. Included little fitness too.
Happy how my body felt energetic.
Until one day, "I didn’t feel like getting up"
Two weeks, Schedule is back to groggy mornings, skipped breakfast, put on visible fat

Work has got shittier.
My day starts with 2 hours of compulsory, back-to-back meetings, followed by more 1-O-1s through the day. 
The meetings are just crying how things are bad, not working out, employees are not putting efforts, revenue is down, sales is not performing, clients are leaving - 3 hours later, we still haven't got a action plan. What's the use?

This wasn’t meant to be a rant. 
Just that cannot tell people to fuck off.
I feel should tell a part of me to fuck off too.

How do you overcome low days? (Indian parents term for being "lazy")

I earn a decent living ~32LPA as a Software Engineer. I really enjoy my work and it is always a joy working with smart people around you. 

I sometimes wonder if I didn't exist would it matter in the world. At work, I come up with great ideas and insights which my peers appreciate and support, but there hasn't been one thing that they took seriously and moved ahead with. 

My peers around me constantly belittle me, some unprofessional jokes about my competence and intellect, even though I am actually good at what I do and more. 

The backhanded compliments and sarcastic replies in front of other people in my company makes me sad beyond belief. It is almost like I give so much of time to this company and although everyone cares about the work I do but no one cares about me. 

My colleagues constantly try to one-up themselves by bullying juniors and laughing in their glass-walled conference walls. 

Incidents like these make me want to give up on work. I think the mix of giving all of myself at work(intensity and long hours), constant berating on my competence and the time I spend away from my family and "real" friends(not these fake work colleagues) makes me depressed as fuck. 

I am now understanding that you can never be happy in life because you can never have all that you want. You will give up something for the other. You think making more money will make you happier but you will just end up losing your sanity.

Hang in there, friend. I can assure you that you can find happiness in the workplace. What you're experiencing is common but definitely not the norm. There are many places out there where people are decent and you wouldn't be treated so pathetically. I hope you find the opportunity to move out and cut yourself off from the vile people at your present employer.

I think it’s not the work that I am bored of but the fact that corporate doesn’t allow you personal time and space. My timings have always been 10 to 8 or 11 to 9 and it’s next to impossible to get a project that has 9 to 6ish. How are people managing this after marriage and kids? Where is the time to focus on your personal goals and quality time for your family? Or do we target to achieve FIRE? But if that means slogging in the present, how is it useful to compromise your present altogether. Maybe this is just a rant, but I am fed up. I need my evenings now. I need my evenings to be free and not full of “So I’m gonna start presenting now”, “can someone please take the MoMs” bs

Is anyone else just done with Corporate? I have been into Consulting, doing pretty well and everything but I think I have reached that saturaton point. 8i

I'm planning to say it outright to Manager, that if standups are going to run for 1.5 hrs then I will be commuting in this time. I dont get time for myself, if I just sit and listen nonsense that i can read.

What to do with daily 2hr standup? It eats my gym time.

Couple years into job, and have meetings or discussions almost all day. How in the world do you senior folks get work done?!

Just moved from a WFH startup to a Full WFO legacy corporate company.

These corpo people talk so much, too much restrictions to get access or to create a MVP, a lot of unnecessary paperwork/ email loops.

I feel sleepy all day and these people find and make you speak hell lot making me confused and feeling that I have done no work and what will I say about deliverables 🥲.


Side note: renovation going on so not getting any corner + the setting are like this getting it is difficult 😭

Any suggestions or I am over reacting 😄

Rant and Feeling confused

• First you are asked to present a plan for next quarter in a week's time
 • You come up with some random things to present
 • You are  told that the the targets (impact) are too low and given an unrealistic target.
 • You present an unrealistic plan for the revised target.
 • You are asked to get the stuff done in even less time and plan for it.
 • Every month you're asked as to why the initiatives are not giving expected impact.
 • At the end of the quarter you are asked (humiliated) why you're not able to deliver on the plan that you yourself made
 • You are asked to present plans for the next quarter next week
 • the cycle just repeats

My team has two standup daily, one at 11 and another at 2.30. And the most funny thing is sometime these standup runs for 1 hour and we even have lunch at  1. I mean really it seems messed up. By 12 we are free from standup, hardly get the work rhythm from 12 to 1 and then lunch and afyer that within 30 minutes there would be next standup.

How do you guys approach to completing your tasks which are adjusted to be completed in 40 hours (or whatever amount of time is standard in your company) when 25% of the time goes in meetings and calls only?

So, for some context, I recently joined my new company about 4 months ago. I was previously working at a well known design studio and wanted to try out product companies.

My manager is very bossy and literally micromanages everything.

Things they do:

1. Has 2 1:1s per week. 2 fkn 1:1s every week. One on Tuesday and one on Friday just to check up on how I'm doing and there is literally nothing to update during that time. I mean I'm not going to make any significant changes within 2 days. My time gets wasted and I've suggested that I don't think we need two calls like this but they dismissed that point.

2. Does not know when to diverge or converge. If we are approaching a deadline, they are still in an exploration mode and constantly ask me to explore more. Being super unrealistic. And then randomly call me out by saying, we need to wrap this up quickly after asking me to explore more. Like tf?

3. Most importantly, super confusing in the sense that they contradict their own opinion in the same call and all the calls end up with no conclusion. Do this using X method, then next day they say why are you using X method, you can try Y method too bla bla. This happens every time and I'm left speechless every time. I get on calls with them to get clarification on my issues but end up getting more confused.

4. Gives feedback and expects it to get implemented. If I say no or suggest a better alternative, they become defensive and pin it on me saying, I need to explore more etc. I do explore a lot but there should be a full stop to when I should stop exploring. Also, literally anything I do has to go through them, and they have to give unnecessary advice even when the work I am doing is coming to a closure.

Every Sunday I dread that the next day is Monday. Feeling very down off late, what should I do?

Huge amount of your work hours goes only for “Follow ups”

Like you literally have to follow up for the smallest things. 

Why do I have to remind people to do their part?

Ex: I have 1 member who I have been following up for 8 Months for a work that can be done in just 1 day. 

And he is not the only person I have been following up.

Imagine guys, how unprofessional and danger this is to work culture & Company Growth.

ICICI Bank, they had a strict sign in timing policy where if you are late to corporate office, half day salary would be cut, It would be reversed only when manager approves. The sign out time used to be 5.15pm, but you would be made to sit till 8 pm by most of the managers even if your job is done for the day. A sign out at 6 pm used to be called as half day by most of the managers. 
 I heard now they donot have this dictatorial policy.

It’s should and will always be about how productive those hours actually are. 

You see, no knowledge worker puts out more than 2.5 to 5 hours of real work in a day. That’s 12.5 to 25 hours of productive work in a week. The rest? It’s just meetings, updates and moving things around.

Five-day work weeks? If you’re measuring by butts in seats, sure. But if you’re looking at actual output, it’s a joke. We need to obsess over productive time, not clocking hours. The attendance/week hours mindset is a pseudo-metric killing the workforce, making us focus on quantity over quality.

Think about it: As a knowledge worker - your days are filled with meetings, status updates, and email threads. How much of that is real, impactful work? Very little. We’re stuck in busyness, mistaking it for productivity. But then again, if orgs obsess on outcomes only, employees will call them out: 'You don’t see my effort to go from A to Z, you don’t acknowledge it.' Hence, orgs measure you by hours. And for those thinking, 'Pay me by hours, overtime factored in' – great on paper, but useless for knowledge workers.

IMHO, we are way more more comfortable measuring by hours than outcomes.
We rave about deep work, about focus hours, but in reality we laude how long someone stays logged in. 

Weird isn't it.
