Ikea Launches Secondhand Marketplace to Compete with Ebay
- Ikea is challenging Ebay, Craigslist, and Gumtree with a new peer-to-peer marketplace called Ikea Preowned. - The platform will be tested in Madrid and Oslo until the end of the year, with plans for a global rollout. - Customers can sell secondhand Ikea furniture directly to each other, with options for cash or Ikea vouchers. - The initiative is part of Ikea's digital transformation and aims to make the company more 'circular and climate positive' by 2030. - Early listings include items like sofas for €600 and wardrobes for €450, with potential future fees for listings. It is too early to say anything. Why would people choose IKEA preowned over craigslist or Facebook marketplace if they have to directly sell their stuff to the buyer. I don’t think it would be very successful. IKEA furniture is cheaper and targeted for lower income families, so obviously second-hand furniture would be expected to be even cheaper. I can’t see IKEA making any benefit out of it, but as I said, too early to say anything.
Isn't IKEA furniture like already useless two days after you buy them due to the weak manufacturing quality lol
