I am a 2025 grad, and recently got an intern offer from oracle for summer 2024. I've heard a lot of bad reviews about oracle oci on blind and Reddit. Assuming I'll get a PPO, I am focusing on trying to get an international placement right from college. I know it's not easy, but if anyone has any experience, please tell us. It would help not only me but others as well.

Bagged an internship in oracle for summer of 2024. We've been given 4 BU's as options:

1. OCI
2. Oracle Analytics
3. Oracle corporate architecture
4. Oracle cloud Database

I'll be honest and I don't know a lot of web dev, or machine learning, etc. I don't know which would be better in terms of learnings (and also have a good chance of bagging a PPO). Anyone who works in oracle has any idea? Please do help.

Which project should I choose in my oracle internship?

Currently getting interviewed at Oracle for Software Developer 2 and would probably make it. My current ctc is ~ 9 lpa. However, not sure upto how much hike can I get on this. Any clues.
I have 4 yoe and my interview rounds went great.

I’m currently a final year CSE student pursuing my 6-month internship at Amazon. I don’t know if I’ll get PPO after my internship or not. Heard that our seniors from the 2023 batch were not offered PPOs after their 6-month internships. 
Would want your views on if I should start applying to other companies on the side as a plan B. Also, on-campus placements at my college aren’t looking that good this year in terms of the packages being offered. I got a summer internship at Accenture as an Advanced App Engineering Analyst, started yesterday. There are good chances of PPO post the internship and if I get the PPO then my college does not allow me to sit for placements with the exception of very few companies, which would have the most competition. I really want to get into a product-based company for a full-time role. I applied to Accenture since it was a summer internship. 

So, considering the worst-case scenario where I join Accenture as an FTE with no other options, how hard is it to switch to a product-based company? I'm a good learner so I can learn the required skills and already have some unofficial experience with web development and did good on ML and DL courses of my college with good projects to showcase my skills in them.

We hire interns occasionally, and the market for interns is so bad right now, students are approaching us to work for free (we do pay a stipend and don't ask for free work).

Companies aren't even hiring that many interns, and college students need internship experience to add to their resume and compete in the market. 

Heck, MSMEs are shutting down and MNCs are doing layoffs, not very inspiring. We've managed to survive somehow through all the covid ups and downs.

Would like to know more from students on GV, what's your college internship and placement scenario like? What are you doing to stand out?

Looking for a fresher role

Heard of some layoffs happening in the OCI division. None reported so far has anything to do with performance, but rather a reduction in force.

Any clue of more coming in the near future?

My younger bro is currently in his 3rd yr at NSUT Delhi.   He has been learning front end for a good while. And is now also learning AI/ML.

All his prep went into vain due to poor internship placements. 

He is now very underconfident about interning off campus and wants to directly sit for main placements.

My understanding is that it’s critical to have a good brand internship and a PPO from them preferably. This worked for me as a non-techie so could be a bias.

But if you or anyone you know has been through this journey, kindly suggest what should be the ideal way forward?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently seeking some advice on a significant career decision I'm facing. I'm presently working at Walmart in Bengaluru with the following package:

Total CTC: 32 LPA
Fixed: 22 LPA
Bonus: 5 LPA
Stocks: 5 LPA (vested over 4 years)

Recently, I've received an offer from Oracle, (Senior Applications Engineer) also in Bengaluru, with a fixed CTC of 34 LPA. While the package is slightly higher, my primary motivation for considering a change is to relocate to Hyderabad.

Dilemma:

Accept the Offer:

Be on notice period and keep looking for more opportunities in Hyderabad.
If I don't find a suitable position in Hyderabad during the notice period, join Oracle in Bengaluru and adapt to the new company.

Reject the Offer:

Continue my search for opportunities in Hyderabad while staying at Walmart.
Key Considerations:

Relocation to Hyderabad: This is my top priority.
Package: While the Oracle offer is better, I would have preferred something around 40 LPA to make a definite move.

Questions:

Is it worth accepting the Oracle offer and continuing my job search during the notice period?
Should I reject the offer and focus solely on finding opportunities in Hyderabad?
Is there a possibility Oracle might agree to a location change to Hyderabad, especially if I negotiate?
