Is job-hopping every 1-2 years career suicide or the best way to advance in tech? Any experiences and opinions?

I wish to know the pros/cons of frequently switching jobs. I am in a dilemma, there are posts here and there that say don't switch frequently and then there are posts that nobody cares about frequent job switches, as you are a dev. Let's discuss ladies & gents✍️

I have job hopped and i am in my 4th stint in just over 4 yrs. Out of the 3 hops: 1 was due to covid 1 was due to layoff 1 was because I wanted to switch to a product based company. I am looking to make 1 switch coz my current workplace (a startup) is very shaky and I have been in it for 7 months only. I want to join a stable org / big stable startup where I can spend a good part of my career. Do you guys think it is a right move? Will it look bad on my CV and impact transition into leadership roles? I am from tier 1 undergrad and tier 1 MBA college. I have total 6 yrs of experience (2 before MBA, 4 post MBA).

I come from a non-tech background and have ~4.5 years of work-ex across banking, consulting and business development (2.5 years, 7 months, and 1.5 years respectively). Last month, I switched to a CoS role in a startup but not really loving it so far. How long do I have to stay here so it doesn’t reflect poorly on my CV?

I think about seriously quitting my job atleast once every few months but I've stuck it out here for almost 3 years now. I don't know if it's just me but the idea of putting myself out there and starting afresh at a new company is just terrifying - the struggle to find something exciting but stable, being evaluated at interviews all over again, the uncertainty of fitting into a new team and having to prove myself all over again at a new work place - all of this just puts me off from taking any real action I see everyone around me talking about career growth and taking up new opportunities. And rationally, I get it. I get that there are tons of benefits to changing jobs - better salary, escaping a toxic workplace, etc. etc. I truly admire people who make these frequent shifts - seriously, how do people navigate this?

This is mostly for people who have spent 10+ years in the industry. I’m sure we all can agree that the hiring and salary boom that we witnessed in 2021-22 is mostly over now. Now it’s more about surviving the job market rather than printing asymmetrical amount of money But how has it turned out for people who’ve been in the game for too long. I know some people who switched jobs too quickly and are at a higher package but still not content. At the same time, I know a few seniors who’re still in my first company and are happier than ever with the work. I understand that in Tier-1 cities, the expense itself is more and you’re sometimes forced to switch just to stay afloat. But what would you recommend new joiners based on your experience? Does chasing money in early years help later or only focusing on skills?

How frequent should we be switching jobs? As many a times we encounter situation where HR interrogate about multiple career advice. HOWEVER IT IS MANDATORY TO SWITCH JOB FOR FINANCIAL GROWTH.

Since the job switch hike can never be matched by a promotion within the same org at least in India, Is frequent job-hopping the key to maximizing earnings? What are the potential downsides of job-hopping every two years? For those who have stayed longer at one company, how has your compensation growth compared? Do you think switching jobs frequently is sustainable in the long term?
