Is .net worth it?

I am an intern at Accolite digital and just got done with my training where I was trained on Java spring boot, react js , angular, hibernate. Now they are assigning me to a .net project. I wanted a Java project since I think that having experience in Java would be great when I would make a switch rather than .net. Is .net still popular? Or will recruiters not consider my resume above a Java guy with the same level of experience in software engineering?
