Job security in product management
Everyone and their mother became a product manager in the last few years. How safe are these jobs in a recession. I often hear (from engineers who don’t hide their disdain for PMs so maybe a biased opinion) that they are the first one to let go. Is that true?
Product management over the past couple of years has become very competitive space everyone right from sales to designers want to become PM. Ofc for its own reason pay, power, impact etc.
I feel that you need some grounding in technology before becoming a really good product manager.
So, if you have a good tech knowledge, plus some design chops, it would be hard to put you out of a job.

This needs to be said more and more. I don’t know why people are disassociating tech from pm. Recently saw a lot of PMs doing this.
I agree PMing has become way more competitive.
There is no one answer to this question as it will vary depending on the company and the specific industry, and how impactful your role is.
However, in general, product managers are more likely to be safe in a recession than other employees
