Websites like Spinny, OLX are selling second hand cars on such a high rate that if you put 1-2 lacs more u can get a new model.

Hello Everyone,

Need some guidance as to buy a new or old car. 

To give some context regarding my dilemma:

I don't have any experience whatsoever in cars. But I keep reading blogs/articles from TeamBHP and watch couple of YouTube channels just to keep in touch with what's happening in the world of cars/Automobiles.

Backstory:
During corona, my mother insisted me to buy a second hand car as I was staying at home and we could visit nearby religious places. I kept searching in my hometown(Manually + olx) but could not get a proper car at decent price. So I just dropped it. And while having some conversations with my mother, I yelled at her(I feel VERY 😞 BAD) saying I will never buy a car, as it is a liability. She left it at that. Then restrictions cleared and I had to go back to office. 

Current Day
My mother works as a school teacher and she will be retiring this October. So I'm thinking to give her a car(Either Second hand or First hand) as her retirement gift 😊. I don't know whether to go for a new one or used one, as I myself don't know driving. 
I have just been to driving classes(That too in 2020) and don't have confidence to drive in Bangalore. I'm thinking to keep the car in my hometown and keep a driver for taking my parents to wherever they want to visit. Plus whenever I come back here, I can learn driving. Plus me and wife can take it for long drives back to Bangalore and keep it for couple of months for taking it out on weekends(For learning driving).

Currently this is what I'm thinking:
For new one: Budget is upto 10Lakhs(On road)
For used one: Preferably less than 5 Lakhs. That is, If I get a good deal.

Should I go for a new one or old used one?

Kindly help me in deciding 🙏

One of my team member said that he is paying ~2L per year as the fees for his child who's in 4th standard now, in Bengaluru. 

It's a CBSE school and is based out of Bengaluru. He pays additional for uniform, books, transport, etc. 

They also kind of want a well educated mom, but she shouldn't be working as there needs to be someone to take care of the children all the time.

Although I studied in an private engineering college (but one of the best in the state), it costed only around ~2,50,000 for everything across 4 years (2021 grad)

What the hell are they teaching over there? 💁🏻‍♂️

He also shared a few instances where parents are paying almost 6-10 lakhs for class 11 & 12 (coaching oriented). And then, of some who are paying ~25 Lakhs for B.Tech admission. 

I don't know where the world is going 🤯 

I would like to understand the opinions of those who are reading this.

Recently I was evaluating a secondary vehicle and observed that - Thar is increasingly becoming a middle class masculinity exhibit. More valid for people those who don’t have any other personality traits. Black Thar with tints is king of this segment in tier 2/3 cities. 

Kudos to Mahindras for monetising the inflated egos and adding an unsafe product to Indian roads. Ladder-case chasis in the first place proves the vehicles isn’t designed for roads. Ingress/egress issues, wide body and poor controls is something to add. At the same time, I am surprised no other player is trying this “fastest growing” segment. Suzuki tried with jimny, but it looks timid and not worthy alpha-male projections. Tatas going in coupe-ish direction.
