Marketing in the VC domain

Hi! Trying to understand the role of marketers in a VC. Trying to make a transition from startup into the vc game; other than employee branding and marketing, how closely do the marketers get to work with portfolio companies; if at all. What else do they do?

Very closely if we have a founder we trust and back heavily you work with them. Active VC major goal is to market their companies to increase their valuation and help founders

I really don’t think many in india. As most VCs in India are silent partners many in India are like that. But I met a girl once working for Antiers who did marketing you can try there

I would say it entirely depends on the role you’re getting hired for.

For example a portfolio marketing advisor would mostly work with portfolio cos and help them think through strategy. Usually senior level folks are hired for such a role.

And, if you’re selected as a marketing manager for the VC firm then it’s expected that you help out partners with content, write white papers, work on lot of content and conduct few offline events.

I understand from your insight that the early stage marketers have more to do with content than strategy.
If you’re a marketer, how do you think this will pan out in the next stages of career development or should one look at senior roles of strategic marketing with relevant yoe

It has also gone content centric for some funds as it could largely come down to co-working on investment thesis, reports (sectoral/thematic) of the fund aside from brand and PR. Of course, I don't see it being limited to just working for the fund alone.
