Sorry If this sounds like a rant brother.
Why microsoft? why every student is running behind FAANG? please don’t take this personally, I am more concerned about the trend in general.
No focus on building the right skills or future proofing yourself in terms of the tech, but whatever lands me in FAANG I am fine.
There are far far better companies present that takes your learning 0-100 in very small span of time, but people still want to land FAANG.
- FAANG pay is border line average.
- Culture usually depends on team to team but I can see a lot of people choose FAANGs to stay there in the later stage of their career.
- apart from some teams, most projects are just in maintenance mode or very less innovation.
- And due to this FAANG culture, people who are there have a massive ego.
- FAANG Recruiters make you feel like they are the ones giving jobs and doing you a favour.
Ask yourself questions-
- At this stage of your career do you want to be in a place like this?
- is it the FAANG status, or pressure from society that once you are there you are top 1%?
and If you still want an answer brother there are some 1-2 YOE tech influencers who are selling the whole roadmap on how to land a job at FAANG.
Youtube is filled with them.

FAANG use their brand name to low-ball. Definitely not the best payers. Even within, told by my managers at Microsoft - do not expect much, even if u work too hard.. what exactly is my motivation then ?
On the same note I am aiming for data and applied science roles. I am currently a Java developer for about three years. Could anyone guide me what must I do to stand out and what are some companies that I should target??
