I'm a millennial managing a team of Gen Z's. I feel like I need a translator. How do you bridge the generational gap at work?
I thought I was young and hip, but my new employees make me feel ancient.
As I have spent decent amount of my time in Software industry now, I see that Millennials (late 20's- early 30's) are moving towards management position (mostly 8-10+ years of experience).
You may have had awful supervisors who micromanaged you, or a bad team leader who was extremely insecure. It's time for a change the system. To change the system, you must first be a part of it.
I know it's easier said than done, but be more collaborative with your juniors. They are looking to you for counsel.
Also, a reminder to Gen Z: Be patient; we millennials have gone through a lot. :D
