NEOM's The Line Project

Hey folks, When I heard about this project, I had many questions and wanted to discuss it with others. However, there was no platform that had so many intellectuals who understand the real product and engineering but now i have one. To give you some context, construction on this remarkable project is already underway. The project boasts of becoming an engineering marvel, yet doubts linger regarding the feasibility of these grand claims. Here are my inquiries: 1. Can they truly construct an imposing big and strong glass wall around the city, capable of withstanding environmental pressures and wind forces? 2. Considering the challenging terrains, how feasible is the idea of tunneling for underground transportation? 3. With scorching temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius, can they effectively mitigate environmental repercussions? 4. Gathering real-time data on weather, location, and cybersecurity seems daunting – a challenge even for seasoned IT experts. How might this be managed? 5. Is the vision of a system powered entirely by renewable energy within reach? 6. Amidst meteorological unpredictability, how can accurate weather forecasts be maintained, considering even current predictions remain uncertain? Also, if it succeeds, don't you guys think it will create a dichotomy between those within it and those outside?

Any mechanical engineers here who can answer a few questions?

Trying to think about how the lowest common denominator's problems can be solved. Major issues that still persist in slums - Housing and rehabilitation Plumbing Toilets Water access Could there be modular houses built/assembled in a day or two out of cheaper and lighter materials that are more durable than mud/dirt? Shipping Container houses being laid down using a crane was my initial thought, but cranes are hard to fit inside narrow lanes, so assembly might be better option. Instead of constructing a complete cement and brick building somewhere, maybe some Lego housing would be easier. Might be possible to stack upto 2-3 floors. Maybe a porta-potty optional variant where plumbing for toilets isn't available. Rainwater harvesting and solar panels built on the roof maybe. Sink water should collect for use in toilet flush like it happens in Japan. -------- Apart from housing, for employment I was thinking about upgrading the hand cart that Indian hawkers use for selling veggies , street food etc. They are a pain to move around and use because they're bulky. Features I'm thinking about adding - 2 floors of the cart, one where motor is kept (with storage area next to it) and second where stuff to sell can be displayed above the motor floor (some hand carts already come with a lower section but it is usually open). Covered on all 4 sides. Once work is done, stuff can be stored inside the storage area on the motor floor, while owner can sleep above it. Convenient for those living away from home. Locking it up from inside instead of outside when sleeping in the cart, like an airplane lavatory lock. One seat in front of the cart with a steering wheel. On the roof - solar panels that can charge a battery to operate a small fan, LED lighting & a charging port/plug for phones and small devices. Not sure if the panel can power the motor for a large cart, maybe electric motor if it can. Otherwise petrol/diesel motor. Thoughts?

Discussion about post white collar labour economics

These days, I can't help but keep on thinking about post white collar labour economy and it's implication on our day to day life.... We can keep on dwelling in our wishful cocoon but fact remains that world is going to be vastly different in 4-5 years vis a viz today... In that scenario, let's us discuss some scenario : 1. What will be impact on rental yields of tier 1 cities and consequently what will be overall impact on Indian real estate 2. What would be impact on banking interest rates 3. Where will you park your money in that scenario : Gold, Indian Equity , Big Tech Equity , FD, Real estate or Cash.. My opinion : 1. As high paying jobs for majority of people diminishes, Rental yields of tier 1 cities will come down thereby directly impacting real estate. This will result in huge NPA by those people who have taken loans for 20-30 years period. This will eventually bankrupt real estate developers thereby making real estate deflationary. 2. We will begin to witness overall a deflationary society where cost of services like Education, software, finance etc will drastically reduce. Moreover due to high NPAs, banking interest rate will reduce. Home loans for tenure of 20-30 years will drastically reduce due to increased uncertainty. 3. Gold has historically been inflation proof asset. However will it still be a good asset to invest into in a deflationary society? What are things that will still hold value then? Don't you think current big techs will become East India Company of future indirectly controlling world's economy? I would love to know what do grapevine folks think about the same !
