PM Case Study: How Slack transformed itself from a Gaming Company into one of the most popular team communication platforms...
Hello everyone, I am a PM from Uber ⚫️, I just want to share a very interesting story I came across today...
Origins: Slack began from a failed gaming company which was building an MMO game called Glitch. During the development of Glitch, the team faced challenges with internal communication and collaboration.
They fundamentally understood that developing a tool that solves this has a much higher potential at making it big.
Key Strategies:
- Design a product that is much better than anything out there.
- They embraced the open ecosystem and allowed third party developers to create integrations and apps, something that we still use for internal tooling MVPs here at Uber.
- Slack spread virally through word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied users, particularly within tech startups and small teams.
- While initially targeting small teams and startups, Slack later shifted focus to enterprise customers, offering features and security measures required by larger organizations.
Achievements: Slack changed the way teams communicate and collaborate, disrupted the enterprise communication market.
