Exactly why I'm asking the question. I didn't see a lot of people doing this shift

Join an early stage startup and then transition to a different role or do an MBA?

I'm already an MBA. Working in a large firm.

Then option 1 seems like the way to go

Shift to consulting allied domains is quite normal. I've seen some stakeholders in my current org move from consult firms or strategy teams in orgs. VC folks and startup founders generally end up in investor relations or corp dev in product firms.

You can join on an expert track - digital transformation etc. You'd work as an in-house expert on this topic and work with clients who need deep working knowledge. You can later transition to a more generalist role once you have mastered the consulting tool kit and general way of working.

MBB and most tier 1b firms rely heavily on hiring straight from MBA schools. Hence there is little institutional support once you join laterally at a higher level - say a sr consultant/ manager etc. This transition becomes slightly more nuanced if you don't have consulting background.

Also, they might offer you a role below your current grade. So if you have 4yrs of post MBA experience, maybe they give a role that is 2yr post MBA for consult MBA hires. But if the pay is not your reason, and you like the work, it's better to start at a place where the expectations are low so that you have wiggle room to fail and improve

I already earn and build wealth in similar levels as my consult counterparts, money isn't the motivation or the problem

Tbh, I want to move from PM to VC analyst pathway. What would be the best guide for it.

Interesting direction, didn't think of this. Doesn't VC also require some fin and quant skills to read and understand financials, market numbers and metrics?
