Hello. How did you make the transition? Can you share some tips

To be honest I was at the right place at the right time. But I convinced the interviewers (8 of them) citing my exp in dev, solutioning, BA, pre-sales and sales that i have necessary mindset and capability to be a PM

Total experience doesn’t matter when relevant experience is less, compared to the necessary YOE for both Senior/Lead PM. Maybe try next year.

Subscribe to Exponent on yt. And get a memebership if possible. 

Do lots of mock interviews with your peers. 

And get someone who reports to you. Product analyst or apm. It matters a lot for spm role

Hi folks,

I work at a startup (been 2 years now) as a PM. From the last 12 months, my work has mostly revolved around strategy, business intelligence, program/general mgmt. I am now planning to quit and move on. However, I am not sure if I want to continue being a PM, because it's very overwhelming honestly and I actually enjoyed the last 12 months as a generalist. 

Need career advice from fellow PMs whether to pursue program mgmt/strategy/general mgmt/Chief of staff/new initiatives roles or devote 100% of my time to prepare for PM interviews and also try to make up for the last 12 months by doing side projects and maybe even interning under a senior PM 

Some pointers about me:

1. I have 2 YoE in PM. 
2. I have a CS degree from a tier 1/2 college
3. There is no particular reason to quit. Job is chill

I have product strategy background.
In interviews i am able to ace product sense / product strategy questions but when it comes to tech, unable to show the required tech acumen (due to lack of actual exposure to it).

Should I just stay put in product / business strategy roles or move into product mgmt?

Reasons for moving into PM - want career and monetary growth, build tech stuff and not just strategise stuff. Have 6 yrs experience (2 yrs pre MBA data analytics+ 2 yrs business strategy + 2 yrs product strategy).

How does an experienced person break into PM roles. Points to keep in mind while.providing suggestions:
1. 10 yrs exp in Tech Industry- 3 yrs in services and 6 years in product based org as QA.
2. Did MBA( full-time from MDI) and now back into the services industry as a business manager.

Never get shortlisted for product roles, most get shortlisted for consulting roles( which I want to leave 😕)
