SSE to PM
Hey people I'm thinking of transitioning into PM or TPM role. I've 5+ years of Software Engineering, I really like management side and have done alot of PM stuff in my previous and current org. I make 3.5Ish monthly working in prod org.
PM here.
Don’t. Product management is now a shitshow of which there’s more demand than supply.
I’m happy you’re earning well as is, I’d not suggest upsetting the apple cart.

Is that worth it
Depends on your goals and skills and interests . One thing is for sure is that there are very few product roles left now and supply of candidates is huge. So it will be difficult to get a job. Also I’m not sure of future of product roles ; you already are doing well as an engineer why not continue?

Try it out maybe? Sit with PMs of your team and get real insights on what work they actually do, including the non glamorous and grunt work. Spend a little less time on your own work and more on what PMs do, and how it differs in your company vs startups vs other MNCs.
The time you spend this way will be here will be much valuable than taking a leap of faith and getting into a PM role. A lot of companies, especially startups, won't mind having you transition between parallel rank roles as long as you deliver and boost the business.
Do you really like product management or do you like the fancy parts of it? Demand-supply, poor job market etc is ubiquitous. Research, Introspect and figure out what you really want to do. Nobody can ever come and tell you if something is worth it or not, you have to figure it out on your own.
The grass is always greener on the other side!
