I'm not able to wrap my head around the pace at which rents increase in Bangalore. We moved here about a year ago and rented a 2 BHK semi-furnished apartment with basic amenities for 28k plus maintenance charges. The rent agreement said there would be a 10% increase after one year. Even though it was a bit over our budget, we decided to go for it. Now, a year has passed and we've settled in, but the owner is suddenly saying he's canceling the previous agreement and starting a new one with a rent of 38k plus maintenance. And he told us this only 15 days before! This new amount feels way too high for our apartment. We're thinking about moving out, but then again the trouble of finding another place and shifting all our stuff in short period is making me anxious. We are not able to decide on what to do. Is this normal here? Any advice?

Hey folks, I'm a recent graduate, got a job at a startup and the base will be <15, >10. Shifted to Bangalore (more like returning after 6 years, lived for 4 years before that). Since I'll be starting my full time journey soon, I want to know how you guys split your take home salary into needs, wants, luxury, savings, investing etc. Currently, I'm in a rented flat in HSR (my split is 7k) and will rent out/buy some home appliances. Food would be around 10k a month (no maid, all outside). I just want to know your experiences on spending and handling money. Not that I'm bad at it, but this is the start of my journey and I would like to know how other people manage their money, so I'd know if I have to tweak some things. Do tell any strict DOs/DONTs, common mistakes.

I'm a 28-year-old married (Wife is also working) individual currently residing in Kolkata, where the living expenses are relatively low. I have 5 years of work experience, and my current compensation package is 28 lakhs fixed and 3 lakhs variable (approximately 1.95 lakhs in-hand salary after deductions). With no liabilities or responsibilities, my monthly expenses are around 40,000 INR, and I manage to invest around 1.5 lakhs per month. Currently, I enjoy a stable job and live with my parents, who take care of most of my living expenses. However, I'm considering the possibility of switching jobs and moving to another city, which would require me to bear the additional costs of rent, food, and other living expenses on my own. Question: Given my current financial situation and the potential for increased living costs in a new city, should I explore a job switch and relocation? Or should I continue with my current stable job and living arrangement in Kolkata, where my expenses are minimal? What factors should I consider when making this decision?

I am moving in banglore and will be earning plenty, around 1.6 lakhs per month. But some friends are suggesting me to book a pg for some days until you find the perfect apartment with good flatmates. Hi fam, wanted to know your thoughts on becoming Airbnb hosts in Bengaluru. I currently reside in bengaluru. Honestly, i had great airbnb experiences wherever I stayed and since I have a knack for DIY my interiors so why not become an airbnb host. Give me thoughts as where should I start ? How to find good deals and property, should I take help of a broker? Is there any profit margin involve at initial level? What are extra costs involved like caretaker and maintenance? Are landlords in bangalore comfortable in leasing/renting out their property as airbnb? I’m thinking to apply the lease/rental model instead of buying the property. If someone is doing the same wanted to know their journey. My aim is to start with one property and eventually expand it.

Recently my friends moved to 4 BHK apartment near Domlur. The total rent is coming to 1 Lakh for unfurnished apartment, it has some really good amenities. All 3 of them have offices nearby, and I work remotely for a US startup. After, furnishing and one time setup, just rent is coming to 32k. I am unsure, whether moving there would be worth it or not for me. I really enjoy company of my friends, but the rent for me is expensive + 6 months deposit. I can definitely afford to pay that much rent, but not sure whether it’ll be good decision or not because of market conditions and tons of uncertainties. I cannot back out if I say yes. I am super confused, one side I want to stay with friends and on other side rent and deposit is worrying me. Would love to hear thoughts of you all. 🙏

I'm looking to rent a 3bhk flat in Kormangla, as I'm about to move there soon. Upon seeing these ridiculous rents and deposits, it got me wondering if there's any leverage I have against Bangalore landlords. I've heard this on multiple occasions that techbros suck at negotiating and most would go with brokers where they don't have direct communication with the landlord during the negotiation phase. Maybe that's part of the problem? Is there anything we have or can use as a point based on which we can negotiate the rent ? I'd love to know if there's anyone here or someone they know who has successfully done this.
